Young Guns secure minor
premiership!

North Queensland has secured the Queensland Wizard Cup minor premiership with a 44-0 defeat of Toowoomba at Dairy Farmers Stadium.

Despite converting just four of their nine tries, the Young Guns handed the Clydesdales what coach John Dixon termed "an embarrassing loss".

Until this season the North Queenslanders had never made the finals of the State League, despite previous success in the NSWRL First Division.

The result, combined with a tense 24-22 win for Norths over Redcliffe, means that Toowoomba will play away to the Dolphins in next week's elimination semi.

Meanwhile North Queensland will have the bye.

Burleigh plays Wynnum in the last game of the season, needing a win to host next week's qualifying final against Norths.

The Bears have relinquished the Club Championship to the Devils however, with Norths winning all three grades at Dolphin Oval to grab the silverware for the first time since 1974.

Full reports to follow tomorrow.
