Melbourne now earn a penalty and march upfield they are 40 out after a big run from Nelson Asofa-Solomona who smacked Victor Radley out of the way.

Josh Curran with an error on debut though and they can't capitalise.

And momentum may have just shifted after a forward pass from dummy-half is ruled - Cameron Munster the one pinned. Roosters 40 out from the Melbourne line.

Suliasi Vunivalu flies down towards a towering bomb on the last and some nice acting skills see him draw a penalty for being blocked off the ball.

Nat Butcher and Sitili Tupouniua with strong metres and they're only 30 out from the Melbourne line now. Plenty of passes as the Roosters throw it around on the last but Matt Ikuvalu eventually grubbers through and Jahrome Hughes takes it. They now get a penalty out of trouble.

HALF TIME - Melbourne with the momentum late but the Roosters lead 20-8 at the break.

Christian Welch has something to say about though, charging up field and drawing a penalty. Storm 40 out, 10 seconds left, they tap. A chip through and Jahrome Hughes is taken out. Another penalty. 28 out near the left edge. They'll shoot for two.

Luke Keary replies with a clean drop of his own and that should be time.

Brodie Croft now drops the ball and Roosters get a full set 30 out.

Cameron Munster kicks off the scrum - Josh Addo-Carr chasing, chasing but Matt Ikuvalu JUST gets there to ground it in-goal.

Melbourne with a chance to hit back but Tui Kamikamica drops the offload from Christian Welch and things aren't going too well.

A very poor set from Melbourne - they go nowhere then come up with an error and fortunately Latrell Mitchell drops the wayward pass otherwise he could've gone 90 metres to score.

Cameron Munster shows and goes, passes to Will Chambers who kicks ahead and forces a dropout. Pressure coming for the Roosters.

Roosters still well on top - playing with far more energy and variety in attack. Boyd Cordner brings it up to the 40 on the third play before Lindsay Collins breaks tackles, offloads for Jared Waerea-Hargreaves who has been great, and they are on halfway. They shift it right and Matt Ikuvalu is taken into the sideline but that still looked very dangerous.

And after surrendering that opportunity, Felise Kaufusi is penalised for a high shot as the Roosters look to land what would be a big blow given the glut of possession Melbourne just had.

So incredibly close. Scott surges onto the grubber but the ball spills out as he goes to ground it and the Bunker rules he didn't regain control of it.

James Tedesco goes incredibly close to scoring - drops the bomb on the last as he jumped for the ball, over the top of Jahrome Hughes, with the try-line in sight.

They won't make many metres in this set though, Brodie Croft going to the air on the last from 40 out. Easy take for Daniel Tupou on his own 10.

In a big blow for the Roosters, Siosiua Taukeiaho has been ruled out. He is replaced by Lindsay Collins in the starting side with Josh Curran coming onto the bench for his debut. Offsetting his absence is the return of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

This one could also be billed as a grand final preview, with both sides in stellar form early.
