FULL TIME - The late field goal to Mitchell decides it. What a thriller - Melbourne fall short.
Roosters struggling for metres early but then Sitili Tupouniua absolutely bursts through and is pulled up on halfway. Boyd Cordner a strong carry - Easts 30 out - they throw it back to Latrell Mitchell who shoots it, doesn't even watch it go through - he knows it is in and they win it already!
And we are underway in golden point!
That is it - we are off to overtime!
They go high and Daniel Tupou is under it. Cooper Cronk now looks to run it on the last and then kick but is tackled! This is madness - Storm 40 out they have a chance but Brodie Croft's attempt falls short.
Big kick on the last and Melbourne are working it out from inside their own 20. Doubt they'll be in a position to take a shot.
Ryan Papenhuyzen - the fullback playing in the front row - drops the ball! Opportunity goes begging.
A risky offload from Angus Crichton to try and help his side out of their own end and Cooper Cronk drops the ball - Storm 20 out.
Latrell Mitchell's attempt from 40 out is not on target at all but it pulls up outside the in-goal area. Melbourne are making plenty of metres regardless and in the Roosters half on the fourth. Brodie Croft goes high and Daniel Tupou is under it to take the ball under pressure.
Brodie Croft misses to the right of the posts. Seven-tackle set coming after that failed field goal attempt.
Heading into the final eight minutes of the game now with scores still locked at 20-all.
But despite all his good work in defence Dale Finucane comes up with an error of his own 10 out from the Roosters line.
No players will be binned. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves penalised for the high shot.
All sparked by what may be deemed a high shot by Jared Waerea-Hargreaves on Brodie Croft.
Another big tackle from Dale Finucane forces the ball loose and now the players have erupted and there may be some players binned here.
Another penalty for tackled in the air - this time Josh Addo-Carr ruled to have bumped Matt Ikuvalu. Roosters start the set just before their 40.
Dale Finucane smacks Lindsay Collins off the restart and he drops the ball. Big play.
Cooper Cronk with a nice grubber and Latrell Mitchell looms but Suliasi Vunivalu just toes it dead.
Roosters stepping up now as they shove Josh Addo-Carr into touch. They have another full set 40 out.
James Tedesco to Daniel Tupou who flies over but this time the officials do pick up the forward pass.
Cameron Munster now sends the ball out on the full. Roosters 40 out.
Luke Keary now being helped out for a HIA. Angus Crichton to centre. Latrell Mitchell to five-eighth.
Cameron Smith short to Nelson Asofa-Solomona who looks to crash over but can't reach the line. Roosters survive.
And a dropout forced - another from Cameron Smith - that is his third.
Melbourne now earn a penalty and march upfield they are 40 out after a big run from Nelson Asofa-Solomona who smacked Victor Radley out of the way.
Josh Curran with an error on debut though and they can't capitalise.
And momentum may have just shifted after a forward pass from dummy-half is ruled - Cameron Munster the one pinned. Roosters 40 out from the Melbourne line.
And he nails this one from the sideline.
Scott goes from dummy-half and that is far too easy!
Melbourne looming - Cameron Smith with a lovely kick back inside - Luke Keary comes back to collect it and is forced in-goal.
Croft converts again!
Cameron Smith with a flat ball to the rampaging forward who crashes over.
Deja-vu again as this time Cameron Smith threads the needle and forces a dropout.
More pressure to come with Melbourne forcing a dropout.
Suliasi Vunivalu flies down towards a towering bomb on the last and some nice acting skills see him draw a penalty for being blocked off the ball.
Nat Butcher and Sitili Tupouniua with strong metres and they're only 30 out from the Melbourne line now. Plenty of passes as the Roosters throw it around on the last but Matt Ikuvalu eventually grubbers through and Jahrome Hughes takes it. They now get a penalty out of trouble.
Jahrome Hughes collides with Matt Ikuvalu mid-air and concedes an early penalty. Roosters on their own 30.
Back underway here at AAMI Park.
HALF TIME - Melbourne with the momentum late but the Roosters lead 20-8 at the break.
Croft does well to send it through.
Christian Welch has something to say about though, charging up field and drawing a penalty. Storm 40 out, 10 seconds left, they tap. A chip through and Jahrome Hughes is taken out. Another penalty. 28 out near the left edge. They'll shoot for two.
Luke Keary replies with a clean drop of his own and that should be time.
Brodie Croft now drops the ball and Roosters get a full set 30 out.
Croft nails it.
Addo-Carr goes over out wide - the pass from Kenneath Bromwich looked forward but the try is given.
Cameron Munster kicks off the scrum - Josh Addo-Carr chasing, chasing but Matt Ikuvalu JUST gets there to ground it in-goal.
Melbourne with a chance to hit back but Tui Kamikamica drops the offload from Christian Welch and things aren't going too well.
Mitchell has been perfect and maintains that with the successful conversion.
Latrell Mitchell! He dummies, dummies, fends, fends and soars down the left edge before lobbing it over to his fullback in support.
A very poor set from Melbourne - they go nowhere then come up with an error and fortunately Latrell Mitchell drops the wayward pass otherwise he could've gone 90 metres to score.
Cameron Munster shows and goes, passes to Will Chambers who kicks ahead and forces a dropout. Pressure coming for the Roosters.
Roosters still well on top - playing with far more energy and variety in attack. Boyd Cordner brings it up to the 40 on the third play before Lindsay Collins breaks tackles, offloads for Jared Waerea-Hargreaves who has been great, and they are on halfway. They shift it right and Matt Ikuvalu is taken into the sideline but that still looked very dangerous.
Mitchell nails it.
Waerea-Hargreaves pounces as Luke Keary's grubber hits the post.
And after surrendering that opportunity, Felise Kaufusi is penalised for a high shot as the Roosters look to land what would be a big blow given the glut of possession Melbourne just had.
So incredibly close. Scott surges onto the grubber but the ball spills out as he goes to ground it and the Bunker rules he didn't regain control of it.
Curtis Scott looks to have bombed a certain try! Checking with the Bunker.
That's three-straight penalties now.
An absolute speculator here coming out of their own end. Latrell Mitchell spreads it to Luke Keary and, perhaps out of fear of being belted straight when he caught it, Keary looks to bat it on but it spills into touch. Storm 10 out. Penalty straight away for offside.
Cameron Munster kicks early on the second tackle, potentially for Josh Addo-Carr and he does chase it down but James Tedesco is there to cover it.
Great kick out of trouble from Melbourne - James Tedesco trapped on his own 20. Daniel Tupou and Boyd Cordner with the next runs before Mitchell Aubusson, playing in the centres, takes it up to the 40. They find space on the left but Lindsay Collins drops the ball.
Roosters well on top - they march upfield, throwing it around, and are just 20 out on the last. Jahrome Hughes shaky under the high ball - he drops it, but Cooper Cronk ruled to have knocked it on first.
Mitchell extends the lead to eight.
Melbourne pinned for passing off the ground here and are penalised! Roosters 20 out, they'll shoot for two.
Storm spread left and threaten but the ball slips out of Jahrome Hughes' hands.
Mitchell Aubusson pinned for a second effort. Penalty Storm. They start the set on halfway.
James Tedesco goes incredibly close to scoring - drops the bomb on the last as he jumped for the ball, over the top of Jahrome Hughes, with the try-line in sight.
Mitchell converts his own try.
James Tedesco steams through off a great ball from Luke Keary, he links with Daniel Tupou and Latrell Mitchell is backing up in support. Try!
Lazy high shot from Jesse Bromwich on Matt Ikuvalu - penalty.
Luke Keary follows suit with a towering bomb of his own but Suliasi Vunivalu is under it. Josh Addo-Carr is then picked up and dumped. Jesse Bromwich and Dale Finucane with the next runs, good metres from the latter and they're just outside halfway. Brodie Croft clears it and is tackled on his own 10.
They won't make many metres in this set though, Brodie Croft going to the air on the last from 40 out. Easy take for Daniel Tupou on his own 10.
We are underway here at AAMI Park and Luke Keary drops the kick-off, backwards though. Cooper Cronk clears it on the last and Melbourne start their set on the 40.
Curtis Scott also returns for the Storm in the centres.
In a big blow for the Roosters, Siosiua Taukeiaho has been ruled out. He is replaced by Lindsay Collins in the starting side with Josh Curran coming onto the bench for his debut. Offsetting his absence is the return of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.
This one could also be billed as a grand final preview, with both sides in stellar form early.
