Match Overview

The Brisbane Broncos have survived a late rally by the Eels to record a 1 point victory thanks to a David Fifita run and field goal by Jamayne Isaako in Golden Point to finish 17-16 winners at Suncorp Stadium.

Brisbane opened the scoring in the 6th minute of the game when Jamayne Isaako kicked a penalty goal. 13 minutes later, Parramatta replied with the same, when Mitch Moses slotted a penalty goal.

In the 23rd minute, Parramatta caught the Broncos edge defence short when Clint Gutherson threw a lovely cut-out pass to Maika Sivo and the big winger scored out wide. Moses was unable to convert from out wide.

Brisbane replied shortly after when Darius Boyd made a slicing run through the Eels middle, making 50 metres before passing to Alex Glenn, who then grubbered and regathered before being tackled just shy of the Eels line. From the next play, David Fifita took a crash ball and smashed his way over for a try against the scattered Eels goal line defence. Isaako converted.

Right on halftime, Isaako added another penalty goal.

Two minutes into the second half, Brisbane struck first when an Anthony Milford grubber into the Eels in-goal, which was pounced on by Boyd, who scored to the left of the posts. Isaako converted.

Parramatta gained an extra man advantage when Andrew McCullough was sin binned in the 48th minute, but were unable to capitalise on it. Blake Ferguson looked to have scored a great try only for the last pass to be ruled forward.

In the 66th minute Parramatta scored through Ferguson, who had no room to move, darted down the sideline, just keeping his feet in the field of play, then dived for the corner with only his hand on the ball the only part of him in the field of play, as he scored a spectacular try. Moses failed to convert from touch.

With just 3 minutes remaining and the Eels in the ascendancy, Kane Evans took a crash ball into the Broncos middle defence, rolled in the tackle and just managed to plant the ball down on the stripe, to score under the posts. Moses converted to level the scores to send the match into golden point.

2 minutes into golden point, Broncos back rower Fifita made a powerful, barnstorming run, clocking up 30 metres. James Segeyaro quickly sent the ball from dummy half to Isaako, who then calmly potted the match winning field goal.

Brisbane's final round clash next week takes them to ANZ Stadium against Canterbury on Saturday, while on Friday the Eels host Manly at Bankwest.
