Round 7 - Cbus Super Stadium, Robina / Yugambeh - Crowd: 17383

Match Overview

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have survived an early scare against a Titans side not afraid to throw the ball around, coming back from a 14-point deficit at half time to win 40-30 at Cbus Super Stadium.

The Titans got on the board early with a outstanding solo David Fifita effort, with Souths taking about 15 minutes to hit back courtesy of some lovely running and kicking from Campbell Graham to set up Jaxson Paulo.

It looked as if Souths may run away with it when Cody Walker crossed just two minutes later, however David Fifita would have something to say about that, initially struggling off two Souths defenders before beating 3 or 4 more to score his second try of the night, equally as brilliant as his first.

The Titans would be gifted field position after Damien Cook made contact high, and they made full use of it when Kelly would get a great offload away close to the line to set up David Fifita for his third try.

What followed is a contender for try of the season by the Titans. Ash Taylor showed no fear and swung it all the way to the left, with Corey Thompson streaking away downfield and beating about 5 Souths defenders before getting an amazing flick pass away to Jamal Fogarty, who had nothing but daylight in front of him and made it an imposing 24-10 scoreline at half time.

Souths absolutely blew the Titans out of the water in the 2nd half, executing a simple sweeping play in the 46th minute with Dane Gagai the beneficiary. 5 minutes later, Keaon Koloamatangi would go right through the Titans defence and link up with Benji Marshall who scored the try.

Reynolds would level the scores through a penalty goal in the 54th minute, before Alex Johnston would be on the end of a miracle pass by Marshall and score the try that gave Souths the lead.

Tyrone Peachey would scurry over from dummy half 10 minutes later and give the Titans some hope, however it was soon extinguished when a brilliant cutout play from Marshall to Johnston saw the veteran half score his second try of the night.

Souths would put the result beyond doubt with two late penalty goals.

Next week, the Rabbitohs will travel to Canberra to take on the Raiders on Thursday night, while the Titans will make the bus trip up to Brisbane to play the Broncos.
