Round 22 - Sunshine Coast Stadium, Bokarina / Kabi Kabi - Crowd: 3613

Match Overview

A 28-point haul for Reuben Garrick has helped Manly pile on the pain as they scored a 56-10 victory over a woeful Parramatta Eels side at the Sunshine Coast Stadium.

Having total control of possession for the opening 10 minutes, the Manly Sea Eagles opened the scoring after just three minutes in a sign of what was to come when Brad Parker crossed after the Parramatta defence jammed in too far and left free space for the Manly centre to score.

The second try was more of the same for Manly just a matter of minutes later as Reuben Garrick got the first of his hat-trick when there was too much space out wide as the Eels defence jammed in yet again.

There was clearly a lesson to be learnt for the Eels defence and it was not to jam in so far, but they weren't learning their lesson as they continued their terrible defensive tactic of jamming and the Sea Eagles found space again as DCE found Jason Saab unmarked out wide who got space down the sideline before finding Tommy Turbo to score. The Sea Eagles continued to find space out wide and Reuben Garrick got his second as Michael Oldfield again jammed in creating space for the Manly winger to score.

The Sea Eagles added another try going end to end after yet again finding space on the outside of the Eels defence and Dylan Walker scored for Manly.

Parramatta capped off a poor half with a bright spot when Tom Opacic crossed over after a good pass from Ryan Matterson.

The Eels looked like a side with more confidence to start the second half but that quickly disappeared as the errors came back into their game. The Sea Eagles took 20 minutes to add their next try and yet again it was the jamming defence that created space for Manly and Jason Saab scored out wide just after blowing a chance minutes before.

Things for the Eels went from Bad to worse and then even worse again when Ryan Matterson was sent off by Grant Atkins for a shoulder to the head of Brad Parker. Manly took advantage of the extra man when Moses Suli strolled over for the first of his double just having come onto the field.

Marata Niukore was the next to be given marching orders by Grant Atkins, this time for just 10 minutes after a professional foul off a Manly quick tap.

Manly were able to run in three tries during the time Parramatta were down to 11, Moses Suli scored his second, Dylan Walker kicked in behind to set up Haumole Olakau'atu and Reuben Garrick sealed his historic night breaking the Manly season point record with his third try and conversion.

Waqa Blake was the final scorer of the night after his got through to a Dylan Brown kick and Clint Gutherson converted the consolation try.

Next weekend, Manly have a clash against the Canberra Raiders whilst Brad Arthur will have plenty of work for his Eels side with a Cowboys battle on Saturday night.
