A controversial end to the first half saw the Warriors take the lead after a poor start to the game. However the brilliance of AJ Brimson delievred the Titans their first win of the year, 20-18 at Cbus Stadium.
The Titans opened the scoring on just the third tackle of the game when AJ Brimson split the defence right through the middle, ran 25 metres up to halfway and then sent Beau Fermor away, who raced 47 metres to score untouched. Toby Sexton converted the try.
The Titans extended their lead in the 14th minute when Jayden Campbell threw a long pass over the top to Greg Marzhew who destroyed a defender with a great fend before running in and around to score near the posts. Sexton added the extras.
The Warriors hit back just 2 minutes later thanks to Wayde Egan who ran from dummy half, burrowed through the defence and forced his way through to score a trademark rake's try. Reece Walsh converted.
Chanel Harris-Tevita looked to have scored in the 23rd minute but the Bunker reviewed it and found a small knock on.
The Titans extended their margin in the 25th minute when David Fifita sent a beautiful long ball out to Marzhew who ran through whatever it was that ran in front of him and he scored in the corner. Sexton failed to convert.
Josh Curran very nearly scored a try for himself after he almost regathered his own grubber kick. A minute later Jazz Tevaga put in a grubber that was taken dead by Marzhew. From the ensuing set Tevaga very nearly burrowed over for a try. They eventually broke through in the 37th minute when they shifted the ball left with some good passing and with plenty of bodies in motion, before Walsh runs towards the sideline, draws the winger and then sends a good pass to Marcelo Montoya, who scores in the corner. Walsh converted brilliantly from touch.
Right on halftime, Ash Taylor put in a grubber that looked to be forced ingoal by Philip Sami, but the Bunker decided to review the contest and found that not only did Sami not force the ball, but also that Adam Pompey had forced the ball for a try, despite it appearing that he didn't really have control and had pushed the ball into the body of Sami and onto the ground. Walsh converted and the Warriors went into the sheds at halftime with an 18-16 lead after trailing 16-6 just 4 minutes earlier.
The second half started with Campbell kicking the ball dead from the restart. At the end of the Warriors first set of the second half, Chanel Harris-Tavita put up a bomb which was essentially competed for by his team mates Jesse Arthars and Eli Katoa and they knock it on.
In the 59th minute AJ Brimson delived a perfect cut-out ball across the face of Brian kelly and into the waiting hands of Sami, who scored in the corner. Sexton failed to convert.
Neither team troubled the scorers for the last quarter of the contest with the Gold Coast holding on to record their first victory of the season before a trip to Canberra next Saturday. The Warriors host Brisbane at Redcliffe the same day.
