Match Overview

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have put themselves on top of the NRL ladder for the first time in 2023 following an impressive 20-0 victory over a courageous Wests Tigers side at Accor Stadium.

It was a slow start for both sides with plenty of end-to-end action with neither team truly able to break down the defence of their opposition. It took 25 minutes for the opening points of the contest when Taane Milne opened the scoring after a poor defensive decision from the Tigers opened up a gap on the outside and Milne scored.

A 52nd minute penalty goal for the Rabbitohs put some panic into the Tigers after Alex Twal was penalised for a high shot. The Tigers didn't look likely to throw any attacking punches before though once they conceded eight points it looked as if the balloon had deflated for the Tigers.

The Rabbitohs then put on some late dominance after the Tigers began to capitulate under pressure as they were unable to wrap Campbell Graham up on the last tackle and he found Latrell Mitchell who put it on the chest of Taane Milne to score after being denied twice just minutes before.

Latrell Mitchell sealed the deal with five minutes to go when at close range he wasn't ever going to be stopped from close range after a short ball from Damien Cook out of dummy half.

Next weekend, the Rabbitohs head to Allianz Stadium for an indigenous round contest up against the Parramatta Eels, whilst for the Tigers they head to back to Leichhardt Oval on Saturday afternoon for a clash with the Cowboys.
