Nothing really comes of that set. Penrith looked relatively clueless there and hand it over.

Melbourne's defence continues to be top-rate. Penrith with another full set as the Storm block a Nathan Cleary kick but Christian Welch drops it.

Incredible defence from Melbourne. Penrith threw everything at them. Not much organisation to it but they're threatening and a pinpoint grubber from Soni Luke on the last forces the dropout.

Big chance here for Penrith. The Storm looked to be creating something with an offload inside their own 20 but Reimis Smith drops it. Panthers now 20 out.

Xavier Coates with a determined carry close to the line and then a smart offload to Harry Grant who passes short to Tui Kamikamica and he spins over but he has dropped the ball. A huge opportunity missed!

Taylan May offside and the Storm have a big opportunity here to push 14 points ahead.

Soni Luke has just come on the field! Taylan May - he was the best on the field in the first half - and he gets on the outside of William Warbrick and races away, kicks inside and the interchange hooker is on the spot to score. The Bunker is checking an obstruction in the lead-up.

One threatening moment in that set as Nathan Cleary ran it and almost broke through but Jarome Luai is caught now on the last and Melbourne work it out now from inside their own 10.

Back underway at Melbourne as a lazy high shot sees Penrith get the first penalty of the second half.

William Warbrick penalised for a high shot on Sunia Turuva. Penrith could get into position for a long field goal attempt here.

Penrith's left edge looked to be in trouble there but the Panthers scramble brilliantly to deny Nick Meaney and he is claiming a try. His head is out. No try.

Penrith give away a stupid penalty to gift the Storm decent field position. They start the final set of the half on halfway.

Melbourne have something building on the right edge but a brilliant tackle from Luke Garner on Jahrome Hughes stops it. The last tackle option is poor and they turn it over.

Ryan Papenhuyzen taken high as the ball spills out and the Panthers give away a penalty. Storm gifted cheap metres.

The Storm looked to be building something there as Joe Chan starts it with a big run, then a quick play-the-ball but Christian Welch takes out Luke Garner on the next play and is penalised.

Another uncharacteristic error from Penrith, now inside their own half. You get the sense the first try of the game is coming now.

Nick Meaney squeezes through and has space but Taylan May saves what would have been a try with a crucial one-on-one effort. Melbourne go back to William Warbrick in the air but Penrith handle it well and scramble to force an error on the ensuing pass after Warbrick came down with it.

Nathan Cleary turns it back for Moses Leota who overruns it and drops the ball. Cheap error.

Luke Sommerton picks up Josh King not square out of marker and draws the penalty. Penrith march into Melbourne's 20-metre zone.

A real back-and-forth game so far as Ryan Papenhuyzen comes down with the Nathan Cleary bomb.

Flashes in that set from Melbourne, including a tip pass to Ryan Papenhuyzen who nearly broke through. They go to the air on the last to target the taller William Warbrick against Sunia Turuva but the ball goes over both and into touch.

Now what looked a forward pass from Isaah Yeo to Moses Leota was missed. Again nothing comes of it though as Penrith hand it over on the last.

Harry Grant gets away with a forward pass to Eliesa Katoa early in the set. Melbourne on halfway on the third and they create space on the left but the last pass doesn't land and Xavier Coates puts it down. Penrith gifted some more good field position.

Taylan May with a huge linebreak and Penrith are 20 out after the centre breaks a few tackles. Nathan Cleary to the air and Ryan Papenhuyzen puts it down but was tackled mid-air. Penalty.

A poor end to set for the Storm as Jahrome Hughes' bomb lands around Penrith's 40 and William Warbrick goes for it but knocks on.

The Storm catch Moses Leota out off the scrum and the Storm will look to go up 2-0.

Now Sunia Turuva drops a regulation bomb. He didn't position himself well for that one. Storm with a full set 20 out.

Jonah Pezet with a sloppy relieving error and the Panthers get it right back without having to do too much.

A nice set from the Panthers as Nathan Cleary turns it on an angle to Luke Garner but Melbourne defend it well and did a job in that set to handle everything the Panthers threw at them and now the Storm earn a penalty to help them out of trouble.

Josh King penalised for impeding Nathan Cleary from pressuring Jahrome Hughes on the last play. Panthers now 30 out.

Both sides with clearing kicks on their first sets of the night as they trade plays early. Neither team on top early.
