Match Overview

The St George Illawarra Dragons have piled on the misery for South Sydney with their 28-14 win at a wet Kogarah.

It wasn't a crisp performance throughout the first half for either side but it was the Dragons who took advantage first when Zac Lomax got over after a strong attacking kick from Kyle Flanagan.

A rocks and diamonds performance which we've been used to this season from Latrell Mitchell was on show as he had some lazy work at the back but scored his first of the night when he combined with Cody Walker to chase through a kick and level the scores at 6-6 after the conversion.

The Dragons were able to hit back just shy of the half-hour mark on the clock when Souths shot themselves in the foot losing the ball, conceding a penalty and then a six again in the lead up to concede. Zac Lomax couldn't convert and the Dragons lead 10-6.

Souths had a try disallowed right before half time but the staring play of the half was Zac Lomax's two-point field goal that extended the Dragons lead to 12-6 at the break.

The second half started with a penalty goal for the Red V to extend their lead out to 8 points which became handy as the Rabbitohs struck soon after. The Bunnies scored through Izaac Tu'itupou Thompson in the corner with the big man keeping himself just inside the sideline to score. Latrell couldn't convert and the margin stayed at 14-10.

As the Rabbitohs continued to shoot themselves in the foot they gifted the Dragons points with Jaydn Su'a scoring off a grubber kick and then soon after extending the lead to 12 again with Zac Lomax nailing a gift penalty.

Latrell Mitchell's weird night was on show again as a mistake at the back gifted Jack De Belin a try when the big man was on the spot to pounce and Zac Lomax converted to push the score to 28-14. Latrell scored a late consolation for the Bunnies after the ball pinballed everywhere inside the last two minutes to close the gap to 14.

Next weekend, the Bunnies head to Magic Round with a clash against the Cowboys next Saturday night whilst the Dragons get to enjoy Magic Round as fans before preparing for a clash with the Dogs in a fortnight.

193 metres and a try in horrible conditions. Lead from the front and bent the line all night

1. Ben Hunt

Kicked the Bunnies off the park. Added yet another try assist. Broke seven tackles.
