In what could be the worst match of the season, the South Sydney Rabbitohs have beaten an awful Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles 14-0 in wet conditions at Stadium Australia.
Manly's fortunes for the night were made clear pretty early when they lost their captains challenge within two minutes after unsuccessfully challenging a handover call from Referee Chris Butler.
The Rabbitohs were able to open the scoring within ten minutes after Damien Cook drew in the defence and sent Richie Kennar over. The conversion from the casual kicker Cody Walker was waved away.
Souths added a second try through Jye Gray when he sliced through the defence way too easily after Cody Walker put him through with a beautiful ball. Cody Walker again couldn't convert from wide out though his attempt was a lot closer than his first.
The remainder of the first half seemed to be referee watch as injury suspicions fell over Chris Butler but he was able to finish the half and ultimately the game overcoming whatever niggle was treated early on.
It's hard to say that any action happened in the second half because it just felt like both teams were going through their set of six then putting up a defensive bomb or when they did spread the ball it was either put down or an attacker ended up in touch. The Sea Eagles did have one effort knocked back by the bunker when Tommy Talau got his way to the line but an obstruction from Ben Condon ruined things.
Souths sealed the win inside the final two minutes when Damien Cook put a grubber through the middle of the open defensive line and Keaon Koloamatangi got to the line to score and seal the win. Cody Walker converted from in front to seal the 14-0 win.
Though it wasn't the last chance Manly had to rub salt into their own wounds as they managed to kick the ball out on the full from the kick-off.
Next week, both sides have the Bye whilst in a fortnight Souths take on Parramatta and Manly head to Townsville to take on the Cowboys.
