FT: Souths 32 def Parra 16
Let the voluntary tackles begin.
That pass is forward from Keaon. Been his best showing the last month and a half since moving into the middle.
Trell converts
Brilliant from Wighton.
Moses deliberately held down play trying to challenge something that Parramatta couldn't challenge if they had it.
Moses is binned for a deliberate hold down for the challenge.
Latrell recovers the fumble!
Um... what happened there. Moses kicked it, Milne got there, he found Burgess who lost it (looked stolen by Doorey) but we play on. Eels earn a penalty for a high shot.
Moses quickly converts.
Off a penalty for a professional foul. Parramatta scuried a late try as Gutherson directed play back to the middle and grubber kicked it to a chasing Bryce Cartwright who was able to win the race to the ball.
Matt Doorey is pushed over - no penalty try or a professional foul.
VIDEO REF: Kennedy has NO TRY looking at a professional foul.
Off the upright and THROUGH!
Brilliant shift involving Cody Walker and Latrell Mitchell and it gets Jacob Gagai over out wide.
Gagai! Gets it down in the corner
Souths hanging on here. They have been up against it in field position.
Well handled Liam Kennedy!
Russell can't get the ball away.
PENISINI TRUCKS WIGHTON!
NO TRY for Tago.
DEBUTANT TRY... Brendan Hands provided the tempo to get the pass away to Guymer who found Moses to get it onto Gutherson to find Jake Tago who slide over the line. HANG ON! Bunker is going to take this one off him for a body part into touch.
Jacob Gagai puts it down. The impact of Charlie Guymer has been AWESOME!
No good from Trell.
Trell goes over and get's the first 5k in the bank for Try July. Great play from Davvy Moale who found Walker and then drew the defence wide to find Latrell Mitchell. Mitchell slid early but got the ball down brilliantly.
SIX AGAIN SOUTHS: Slow peel
Ball grounded in-goal from Gutherson. Souths with a fresh set.
SHOT! Charlie Guymer has been AMAZING on debut tonight.
Moses puts it down this time
Gutherson splits them but then he tries to find Sean Russell and it's intercepted by Richard Kennar.
Moses converts.
Souths' poor discipline was giving Parramatta repeated chances on the Rabbitohs line. As much as Hornby's side has improved, they can only hold so much. A brilliant pass from Brendan Hands to find a charging Reagan Campbell-Gillard to cross for the first of the second stanza.
PENALTY PARRA: Inside 10m against the Souths left edge.
Latrell doing some great defensive plays saving the day for the Rabbitohs.
That one was a close call, Cam Murray has a challenge left but doesn't use it. Souths ruled to knock the Wighton kick. Junior Paulo's return is questionable.
PENALTY SOUTHS: Second effort against Bryce Cartwright.
Well defused cross-field kick.
Great scramble on Penisini! Saves the day
Junior Paulo is coming off the ground.
Chee-Kam comes up with an error. Parra get it back.
Charlie Guymer placed on report for a retrospective incident.
Cartwright is down after contact.
Moses is just over the 40m line but he earns a good result for the Eels.
Underway, as the heavens have well and truly opened at CommBank.
First game, 4 tries. Unless I've missed it, we are yet to have a Try July celebration.
HT: Souths 16 lead Parramatta 4
Mitchell converts as the rain tumbles.
Right on the break, Parramatta were hanging on for dear life, however conceded the cardinal sin on half-time. Walker drew the defence left on the unders to Michael Chee Kam who got another magical pass to Walker who crossed.
Tago needed to get a hand to it and he saves the day
SIX AGAIN x 2 SOUTHS: Inside 10m and Ruck
Moses doinks it.
Parramatta were getting up field well but failing to execute throughout the opening 40. A strong carry from Blaize Talagi enabled him to get the arm free to put Dylan Brown into space. From the ensuing tackles, Mitch Moses and Brown combine with Clint Gutherson to find Talagi to finish what he started to cross in his 7th straight match.
Brown brought down about 20m away!
Talagi puts Brown into SPACE!
Trell converts.
Souths continued to capitalise where Parramatta couldn't. A strong carry from Milne saw an offload to Cook to Keaon Koloamatangi who found Chee-Kam who got it onto Jacob Gagai who linked up with Wighton to cross for Souths' second.
Feels like a bizarre sort of game. Now Tago is away, gets it away just to Russell. Russell brought down short. They get it wrong on the last!
Pass was touched I thought from Souths. Kennedy and co. say it's okay
Brown kicking early, big save from Trell.
PENALTY PARRA: Walker is inside 10m
SIX AGAIN PARRA: Ruck infringement as I type that. Charlie Guymer is on for his NRL debut.
PENALTY PARRA: Inside 10m
Richie Kennar on report for some contact on Sean Russell.
Short drop-out has come off Parramatta. The guilty offender is Sean Russell.
It just comes off the boot of Latrell Mitchell. Confirmed by the Bunker as well.
Souths just starting to get themselves on top here.
SOUTHS HAVE BOMBED IT. Walker has bombed it ! What a try saver from Reagan Campbell-Gillard. Great decision live from Liam Kennedy.
Wighton starting to SCHEEMME his way around the park.
Intensity starting to lift up at CommBank. Who will blink second!
Cross-field kick aimed for Russell is regained but he can't get the ball away and Parramatta have to turn it over.
Moses almost through before a brave tackle from Wighton.
Good goal-line stand defence from the visitors.
Penisini puts it down. Few errors early for the young centre.
PENALTY EELS: High shot as Moses stays down after contact.
Moses grubber kicks on the last, looked heavy off the boot but Jacob Gagai takes no chances.
PENALTY PARRA: Walker caught with the coat-hanger on Jake Tago on debut. Russell passed that too early I thought though.
SIX AGAIN PARRA: Cook caught inside 10m
Cam Murray puts it down in the set after points.
Mitchell doinks it and Souths lead 4-0.
That try was ridiculously easy. Four Souths attackers against three Parramatta defenders sees Latrell Mitchell take full advantage of the extra man and Jacob Gagai strides across untouched for the opening try.
Parramatta lose it.
This time the knock on is a bit more disputed.
Challenge is unsuccessful. Parra's challenge is GOOOONE after 7 and a quarter minutes.
Struggling teams are trying to overplay their hand, this time Bryce Cartwright is guilty... but we have a captain's challenge from Parra.
There's the Sean Keppie early error that we see so often. Both sides see a chance of field position and extended possession but they can't convert.
SIX MORE SOUTHS: Hand on Ball against Moses.
Penisini puts it down. That one will hurt for the Eels.
PENALTY PARRA: Inside 10m - Liam Kennedy pointing at Cam Murray.
Latrell Mitchell getting himself involved brilliantly. Souths doing better in this set, charging over the top of Parramatta and gaining field position.
Both sides through their opening sets well. Parramatta slightly dominating field position.
GAME ON! Underway from CommBank Stadium with Souths set to return the football running from left to right.
A helpful reminder tonight kicks off Try July! 5k for every try-scoring celebration!

Scattered showers and cool conditions greet us on this Thursday night as Round 18 of the NRL season gets underway with a battle to move up the other end of the NRL ladder. Parramatta playing host to the Rabbitohs. Looking at the team cards, an NRL debut for Jake Tago on the flank replacing Maika Sivo while Charlie Guymer earns an NRL debut on the bench replacing Makahesi Makatoa. Souths are as per program for this one.
