Thanks for joining us here at LeagueUnlimited! We hope you enjoyed the football today and are back here tomorrow for the remaining matches of Round 20. Enjoy the rest of your weekend
As for the match, the Storm were easily the better side, resilient in defence and more potent in the attack, while the Roosters just struggled to string it all together
They continue their excellent run over the Roosters as the latter continues to have problems when facing Melbourne and Penrith. The Roosters record against those two teams now extends to one win from their last 20
Full time here in Melbourne as they continue to dominate the competition despite the absence of Cameron Munster for much of the season.
Meaney converts and takes the lead to 16-points
The little master has been on the park for all of a few minutes and comes up with a great play to score what will be the final try of this match. He blocks Walkers kick with his boot, beats everyone to the ball and runs the remaining 10 metres before swan diving under the posts to complete this victory for the league leaders
The Storm cramping the Roosters for room here with just 90 seconds remaining. Speaks volumes of Melbourne's performance tonight
Now there's a penalty to the Storm
Collins offload lands in the hands of Kamikamica, that could be the Roosters last chance
The Roosters are throwing absolutely everything at the Storm at the moment and it's not deterring the hosts at all. Resilient in defence
No try, fantastic effort from Anderson who prevents the Roosters from making a late charge at the Storm
The Roosters potentially have another, but it's been sent up as a no try as Anderson held up Young in the corner. The replay will give us a better idea
Penalty to the Roosters, Howarth was offside as he charged off his line to shut down the play
The Roosters are finally firing, Tedesco goes oh so close before being held up by Grant just shy of the try line
Suaalii will miss the rest of the game as he heads to the bench to undergo his HIA
Penalty to the Roosters, initially was called a knock on by Suaalii but he juggled the ball and leapt up to reclaim and in the process was tackled by Meaney. He landed awkwardly on his head/neck. Unfortunate penalty
Another great set from the Roosters, almost going the length of the field. Smith did well to claim the bomb 10 metres out from the Storm's line. He offloaded to Keary who was brought down by a try saving tackle from Hughes
Walker misses his second attempt of the night, too much swing to the left as it misses the uprights
There is some life the the Roosters. They shift the ball right, Radley takes it close to the line, holds it up and finds Young on the wing with an excellent piece of ball playing. The Roosters shouldn't be in this, but they may have a chance
Short dropout doesn't work for Melbourne. Roosters 10 metres out
Roosters go 100 metres with that set, great play on the right edge which led to a Young kick which was initially fumbled by Papenhuyzen before his took the ball dead.
Watson returns to the field after his 10 minutes is up
Meaney extends the Storm's lead to 14-points with that successful kick
Hughes went down with an apparent knee injury during the play, yet to know what's going on with the Storm's star playmaker but on an initial look, it wasn't good, but the halfback is back up and going for the time being.
The Roosters challenge it but the decision will stand
Penalty to the Storm as Butcher has taken out Papenhuyzen without the ball
Lazarus Vaalepu comes onto the park for his debut
The try has been disallowed. The bunker has judged that Tupou takes out Grant without the ball
The Roosters finally get something going in attack, and they've potentially made it a six-point game. A scrappy play to the left of the ruck leads to a staggered defensive line which Keary capitalises with a great kick in behind. Grant might have been taken out but you could argue Tupou is going for the ball. Tedesco then dived on the ball to score
Loiero coughs the ball up due to massive contact from Collins and Radley
Chan is back on the park after serving his sin bin
Another error from Keary as he fails to hold onto Radley's offload. Another get chance for the Storm 20 metres out
Roosters do well to hold out the Storm, however, it wasn't the best of sets from the hosts
Roosters kick off is battered too far back and the now the Storm have the ball well in Roosters territory. This could be the final nail in the coffin
Meaney scores the first points of the second half with a successful penalty goal
Watson becomes the third player sent to the bin tonight for his illegal tackle of Howarth, preventing the Storm centre from making a potential try scoring play
Blore goes millimetres from extending the lead, but the Roosters could be in some more trouble here. Potential penalty try on the next play
Young loses the ball in a one-on-one tackle with Grant as he looked to shove the hooker off. The Roosters awful second half continues
Roosters make a half break through Walker who puts a grubber intended for Tupou and/or Suaalii yet they couldn't recover the ball. Storm wanting this more at the moment
Too much sticky grip on the hands for Watson. The ball sticks to his hand as he goes to play it and results in a knock on. Roosters making a meal of this sin bin period so far
The Storm get down into Roosters territory, however, Hughes repeated Tedesco's efforts with a bomb that results in a seven tackle set
Disastrous end to the set from the Roosters, went extremely close to scoring on tackle five but picked the wrong side of the play the ball to attack on last. Tedesco ended up with the ball and had to put up a bomb which was successfully defused by Papenhuyzen for a seven tackle set
It's been 13 v 13 for all of a few tackles and now it's the Roosters turn to have the advantage. Joe Chan has been sent to the bin for a high shot with force on Radley. This is the Roosters chance
Penalty to the Roosters, MacDonald compounding his error with an offside penalty
Radley is back on the field, 13 v 13 again
Sloppy play the ball from MacDonald right in front of the Roosters try line, it was the Storm's last opportunity to have a shot at the Rooster before Radley returned to the field
Collins has fumbled the ball in the play the ball, the Roosters just can't seem to string it all together
Tupouniua has left the field with a HIA, replaced by Brandon Smith
Joe Chan has been put on report
Second half is underway, can the Storm extend their lead at the top of the table or will the Roosters finally land a win against Melbourne/Penrith
Roosters will start the second half with 12 men as Radley serves the remainder of his sin-bin. Its seems like the Roosters will need to find an extra gear or some more spark in attack if they're to match Melbourne in the second half
Half Time here in Melbourne and the Storm lead the Roosters 14-4. It's been quite an exciting half of football with the Storm playing the better of the football. They're looking increasingly dangerous when they get the ball into Roosters territory
The Storm almost go through again, however, Papenhuyzen's pass has been called forward. That would've been try of the evening
Meaney hooks this one left of the upright. Not the best start with the boot for the centre
This one won't be disallowed, Anderson has his second try courtesy of an excellent chip kick from Papenhuyzen which found the diving winger in the corner. Brilliant try
Another penalty to the Storm for an illegal steal, they've got a great opportunity here
Well this game keeps getting more interesting. The Storm shift the ball left, and Anderson burns Tupouniua before putting a grubber kick in for himself but is taken out by Radley after the kick. The Roosters back rower will spend the next 10 minutes on the bench
Brilliant drop out from Papenhuyzen who drilled the ball straight at Keary towards the side-line, the ball bounced just before the Roosters five-eighth and he failed to clean up the ball
Roosters make the most of the penalty, they get to the other end of the park before Nat Butcher puts through a grubber which earns them a repeat set
Penalty to the Roosters, Joe Chan was holding the tackle down for too long, disappoint from the Storm
Unfortunately, the try has been disallowed. Katoa knocked the ball on his attempt to batter Wishart's bomb backwards
Hahaha you wouldn't believe that in a million years. Wishart's bomb was battered back and the ball ended up with Josh King who potentially kicked the first ball of his career with beautiful grubber that belongs to the best halves in the game as it shapes alongside the dead ball line and finds Anderson in the corner. However it's being reviewed for a potential knock on in the lead up
Howarth goes close but is held up, one more tackle for the Storm here
The Roosters challenged it but the evidence was inconclusive and therefore keep their challenge. Poor place to turn the ball over, Storm now have the ball on halfway and could respond to Tupou's try
Set restart for the Roosters who have coughed the ball up immediately. An offload aimed at Keary either bounced forward of his leg or hand. The five-eighth thinks it definitely touched his knee
Bit of feeling in this match with two big blows traded
Walker makes an unsuccessful first attempt at goal tonight, missing well to the left.
The Roosters strike back, and it all started with the error from Katoa that has seen the Roosters have back-to-back sets. The tricolours do a massive right to left shift, the ball travelling through the hands of both halves before Keary through a looping pass, cutting out the Storm defenders, to Tupou who raced away to score in the corner
Missed this earlier, but Suaalii was put on report for lifting his knees when running the football
Repeat set for the Roosters. Great little grubber kick from Walker which was met by a good kick chase from Lindsay Collins
Poor place to make an error given the Storm's dominant start. Roosters have a scrum 40 out from the Storm's line and Lindsay Collins also looks set to come into the action
Roosters get their first real taste of having the football deep in the Roosters half, and are unable to do anything of it as Hughes shut down Walker immediately on tackle five
Coughs the ball up as the Storm look the shift the ball right in Roosters territory
In 19 games since 2020, the Roosters have only won one of their 19 matches against Penrith and Melbourne, will that continue tonight? Looks to be the case thus far
Meaney makes no error with this attempt. 10-point lead
Wow! Melbourne have gone back-to-back here. Fantastic work from Harry Grant out of dummy-half who took off from his own 40 and took full advantage of a staggered defensive line. Grant found Anderson via a offload that went to ground, but it allowed Anderson to hold up Tupouniua and Young before stepping inside and bursting past them with sheer pace to score under the posts
Meaney hangs his conversion out the the right of the posts
The Storm are the first to strike tonight. The play was initially intended to go right until Ryan Papenhuyzen was forced to the left. The fullback gave it back to Hughes who engaged multiple defenders, passed it to Blore who had room to run into before the former Tiger passed it on to Howarth who beat Tedesco's tackle attempt to score in the left corner
Tries to dive on a loose ball but fails to claim it cleanly. Melbourne with a scrum on the halfway line
It's been an exciting opening nine minutes here in Melbourne, both teams are looking to chance their arm with some early ball movement
Jack Howarth finds some room on the outside but knocks the ball on in his attempt to find Anderson with an offload.
Tedesco and Angus Crichton link up well on the right edge, but Crichton's offload was intercepted by the Storm. Look for that combination to be a dangerous outlet for the Roosters tonight
Hughes' resulting kick drifted away from Dominic Young's attempted catch and almost bounced perfectly for Grant Anderson
Another line break from the Storm, this time it was Nick Meaney who was isolated by Jahrome Hughes. The hosts are looking particularly dangerous thus far
Shawn Blore bursts through Sam Walker before being brought down by James Tedesco 30 metres from the Roosters line. However, the Storm cough the ball up on the next play as Tyran Wishart failed to control a difficult pass
Strong start from both sides so far, trading sets early and both look up for the battle ahead
Melbourne kick off here at AAMI Park
Following on from our late mail, Christian Welch has been a late omission for the Storm, with Lazarus Vaalepu making his debut off the bench and for the Roosters, Naufahu Whyte starts at prop with Lindsay Collins being relegated to the bench after a mammoth effort for Queensland on Wednesday night
Welcome to LeagueUnlimited for our coverage of the blockbuster to finish off Super Saturday in Melbourne. We've got the first placed Melbourne Storm hosting the fourth placed Sydney Roosters in what should be a thrilling encounter.
