Match Overview

The Sydney Roosters have stormed back from a 22-6 deficit to stun the Cronulla Sharks 34-22 at Optus Stadium in Perth.

The Sharks took advantage of an error-prone opening from the Roosters to jump ahead 16-0 early in Saturday's game, despite the Tricolours having the first genuine try-scoring opportunity of the contest.

It came after James Tedesco broke through the middle of the field and found Sam Walker in support, only for the Roosters halfback to pass it back to him - perhaps too soon - as he was quickly chased down by Will Kennedy.

The Roosters put it down soon after, which ended up being a sign of things to come, before Sione Katoa raced away to set up Cronulla in scoring territory.

Brailey then hit Jesse Colquhoun in stride as the Sharks took a 6-0 lead, which they quickly extended after a Naufahu Whyte error as Mawene Hiroti strolled over.

A string of mistakes from the Roosters again put the Sharks in position to score, and Brailey put Braydon Trindall over to give Cronulla a commanding 16-0 lead.

Out of nowhere, the Roosters hit back as Walker put Hugo Savala away and then backed up in support to score and it looked like Trent Robinson's side were over again through Robert Toia minutes later.

But the slightest of touches from Toia on Sam Stonestreet in the contest saw the try controversially rubbed off, and to make matters worse the Sharks then scored on the following set.

It would have been easy for the Roosters to drop their heads after that ruling, but to their credit they reduced the deficit right before halftime as Walker capitalised on an up and in Sharks defence to kick for Daniel Tupou as the siren sounded.

The Roosters carried that momentum into the second half as Daly Cherry-Evans put the ball into the air and then Mark Nawaqanitawase batted it back in the direction of his five-eighth, who scored.

A brilliant, no-look tip-on pass from Savala later put Tupou over for his second, before DCE also made it a double after a late offload from Nawaqanitawase to give the Roosters their first lead of the game.

Another spectacular effort from Nawaqanitawase helped get the Roosters home as they prepare to face the Knights next week. The Sharks, meanwhile, have the bye.

3. Angus Crichton

Was one of the Roosters' best even when things weren't going their way and continued to look their most dangerous in a man-of-the-match performance, bending the line with every carry and hitting hard in defence.

2. James Tedesco

Savala unlucky to miss out as he had a few classy touches but Tedesco was everywhere, running for nearly 270 metres to go with five tackle busts.

1. Blayke Brailey

Brailey had the ball on a thread and was at his scheming best with three try assists and just as many linebreak assists.
