The Knights will be fielding a new away jersey tonight, reminiscent of the strip the side usedin the early 2000's. The last time the design was used the Knights went down 38-12 to the Roosters in a 2002 Semi Final.
To emphasise the contrast in NRL experience between the two sides, South Sydney will field nine members of their 2014 Premiership winning side, while Newcastle have eight players with less than 10 first grade games.
In the past two encounters the Rabbitohs have dominated the Knights by scoring in excess of 50 points, including last year’s 52-6 demolition which saw Newcastle coach Rick Stone sacked.
Newcastle will be 1-17, with Nathan Ross and Lachlan Fitzgibbon coming into the side in place of Chanel Mata’utia (injury) and Pauli Pauli (suspension).
In the only change from the side named on Tuesday, Kirisome Auva’a replaces Chris Grevsmuhl on the bench. After sitting out Round 1 through suspension, Luke Keary will partner Cody Walker in the halves.
South Sydney will be aiming for their sixth consecutive win over Newcastle dating back to the beginning of Michael Maguire’s tenure in 2012.
