The Gold Coast Titans have surged in the second half with a last minute try to knock off the Canberra Raiders, 24-20, in the Nation's Capital at GIO Stadium in front of 11,039.
The Raiders started strongly with two tries inside the first 15 minutes as the halves pairing, Sam Williams and Elliot Whitehead grabbed one apiece. Williams' points came at the 9th minute as his solo show-and-go fooled the Titans defence as he slipped through with ease.
Whitehead followed in the 13th minute courtesy of Josh Hodgson who crafted his own magic as he darted around would-be tackles to link with his halfback. Canberra ahead by 12-0.
Ryan James shocked the home fans as he sailed through the Raiders pack with a dummy which caught the defenders napping on the try line. The Gold Coast hit back to 12-6 shortly before the break.
Josh Hodgson would have the last say of the first half as his footwork again led to more Raiders points. Edrick Lee ignited the afterburners with an incredible run to bring up an 18-6 scoreline as the team when into the sheds after 40 minutes.
Gold Coast fans hold concern for Tyrone Roberts who suffered a knee injury at the 48th minute. This followed suggestions there were 14 players on the field at this stage as David Shillington came on early with Roberts set to come from the field.
Jarrod Croker would post the only second half points for the Raiders as he was successful with a penalty goal in the 55th minute to lead, 20-6.
The Gold Coast took control as they posted a further three unanswered tries in the 66th, 75th and 78th minutes. David Shillington took a stroll to the try line first up as he made his former teammates look foolish with an easy four-pointer conceded.
Zeb Taia put his power on display as he managed to reach out through the defence after taking a brilliant pass from Luke Douglas. Titans pushed the Raiders in the final minutes as they trailed by just two points, 20-18.
Albeit, controversially, John Oliver was awarded the match winning points by the NRL Bunker. Replays were not conclusive as Olive fought his way in goal to ground the ball, however on advice from the touch judge, the Titans were given their four-pointer.
Next week the Raiders travel to Belmore Sports Ground as they face the Bulldogs on Monday Night. Meanwhile, the Gold Coast return home to host the Brisbane Broncos in a top of the table clash on Friday Night.
