Warriors blow away errant Titans

Gold Coast Titans v Warriors

A first half avalanche of points has helped the Warriors to their sixth win of the season, 28-12 over the Titans at Robina.

First half leads have been dangerous for the Warriors this season, but their 24-4 lead at the break as Shaun Johnson and Kieran Foran tormented a makeshift Titans Blake Ayshford, Ken Maumalo and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck all crossed the line to underline the dominance of the New Zealand side in the first forty.

Responding to the opening try from Kane Elgey - the Warriors put their usual attacking style of football back in the bag as Johnson controlled the game with his kicking, turning around a large Gold Coast back every set. It tired out the home side, and the Warriors went bang thrice to put it out of reach.

Ryan Hoffman got on the scoresheet in his 300th game with the first Warriors try, and added to this with a conversion after the siren to make it a memorable afternoon for the second-rower. It was a workmanlike performance from a side that blows hot and cold, which would please coach Stephen Kearney.

Outside of that, it was a textbook display from Foran and Johnson. The two halves linked up well as the Warriors rebounded from a disappointing loss against the Eels last weekend to never give the Titans a sniff. Johnson in particular reigned in his sparkling running game, as he pinned the Titans back three within their ten.

Gold Coast Titans sent slight scares into the Warriors camp after the break when Jarryd Hayne sliced through to reduce the deficit to 16 in the 44th minute. That was the closest that the home side came as a swelled crowd with a majority of those, supporting the visitors left drenched but happy as the Warriors recorded their sixth win of the season.

The win came at a cost for the Warriors, as star five-eighth Kieran Foran left the field in the second half with a suspected quad injury. Titans added to their sizable injury list as Konrad Hurrell suffered another shoulder injury.

Next week the Warriors enjoy the week off before hosting Canterbury at home in a fortnight, while the Titans are off to ANZ Stadium next Friday to face South Sydney.
