In a new deal that could see him play out his career with the Sharks, Origin and Australian front rower Andrew Fifita has agreed to terms on a new contract that will see him remain at the Cronulla club until the end of the 2022 season.
Already contracted for 2017 and 2018, the four-year extension is exciting news for Fifita and for the Sharks who have secured the services of arguably the form front rower currently playing in the NRL.
Understandably, Fifita was thrilled to have his signed the new long-term contract.
"It's a really exciting time for myself and my family, to secure my future for another five years," Fifita said.
Sharks coach Shane Flanagan welcomed the signing, with Fifita a player he believes he could potentially build a team around in the years to come.
"We've all seen the growth in Andrew off the field and his football has gone to a new level as well over the last couple of seasons. He is a match-winner, as we saw in the Grand Final and then again in the first Origin game and to have him here at the club for a further five years is very exciting," Flanagan said.
Since joining the Sharks in 2012 Fifita has been a mainstay of the Sharks pack, playing 114 games for the club, 153 in the NRL after debuting for the Wests Tigers back in 2010.
Fifita has now also played 9 Origin games for NSW, as well as six Tests for Australia and one international for Tonga.
