Brisbane Broncos v Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs

A thoroughly entertaining match, albeit one with plenty of silly mistakes by both sides has seen the Broncos claim a win right on full time from a penalty, downing Canterbury 22-20 at Suncorp Stadium this evening.

The game started with a strong start by the Bulldogs and despite Mbye missing an early penalty goal, the Bulldogs did manage to score first when Foran held up a pass for Mbye who did some dancing, changed direction and then passed back infield to Martin who stormed onto a nice pass and he scored a good try. Mbye converted.

What followed was 10 minutes of frustrating footy, where both sides played great footy, making good metres, only to suffer from poor last tackle options and execution.

Darius Boyd ended the rot with a great long pass to the unmarked Oates, who scored an easy try in the corner. Isaako slotted a great goal from the touch line, to level the scores.

Both sides played more expansive footy but still suffered from bad execution, with an Mbye penalty goal the only scoring for twenty minutes. Just before halftime though, the Bulldogs scored an unlikely try. Foran took on the line on the last and chipped over the top. Boyd slipped over and the ball bounced past him, Montoya then cleaned up and runs infield, almost bumped into Frawley, before getting a pass to him and Frawley scored near the posts. Mbye converted to give the Dogs a 6 point lead at the break.

The Broncos opened the scoring in the second half with a rare well-executed play. Milford took to the line, shaped to kick and then threw a flat ball to Glenn who stepped inside the defence and strolled over for an easy try.

Six minutes later the Broncos kicked a penalty goal. The Bulldogs hit back with another lucky try after Hopoate made a great run down the right edge, before kicking back in field. Jack Bird looked to be in the perfect position to regather the ball first, but he came away with no McNuggets as Holland scored a great bounce and scrambled over to score. Mbye converted from right in front to give the Dogs a 6 point lead.

With just five minutes left in the game, the Broncos equalised after Roberts ran back infield before passing to Ofahengaue who stretched out to score. Isaako converted to equal the scores.

Just as the game was looking like it would go to Golden Point, but then came the final twist. Boyd chased through a bouncing bomb but came up short, however Mbye was found to have reached for his shoulder and was sent to the sin bin with 50 seconds left in the game. Isaako slotted the penalty goal and the Broncos won 22-20.
