A high scoring and entertaining clash between Manly and Cronulla has seen the Sea Eagles score a one point win in Golden Point over the Sharks, 33-32 at Southern Cross Group Stadium.
It was the Sharks who started strong when after just three minutes Graham palmed off an inside ball to Holmes, who burst through a small gap to score near the posts. Holmes converted. Three minutes later Manly hit back with a soft try to Lane who ran over the top of Moylan. Cherry-Evans converted.
In the 16th minute, Paul Gallen took a crash ball into the defence and then dumped a flick ball into the waiting hands of Wade Graham who strolled in to score under the posts. Holmes again converted.
It was just over 5 minutes later that Manly again struck back, this time thanks to a try to Walker, who took on Sharks defence and was almost kept out, but he twisted and just managed to get the ball planted on the line. Cherry Evans converted.
Just 3 minutes later and Lane hit a yawning gap in the middle of the field to score under the posts. Cheery Evans added another goal. Just on the half hour mark, he kicked a penalty goal after Aaron Woods had been sin binned.
On the stroke of halftime, Ramien scored after a powerful, barnstorming run, bulldozing over Kelly and then twisting around in a three man tackle to slam the ball down for a brilliant try. Holmes converted.
Manly responded within the first 2 minutes of the second half, when Tom Trbojevic followed through after a Cherry-Evans bomb, leapt and took the ball cleanly to run in and score. Cherry-Evans converted from touch.
Four minutes later Segeyaro grubbered from dummy half, just 3 metres from the Manly line. The loose ball was overrun and missed by everyone except Aaron Woods, who picked it up cleanly to score under the posts. Holmes nailed the easy goal.
Just three minutes later, Holmes kicked a penalty goal to level the scores.
Right on the hour, Moylan stepped off his left and darted through a gap to score to the left of the posts. Holmes converted to give the Sharks a 6 point lead.
Ten minutes later Holmes lined up another penalty goal but this time he pushed it wide of the posts. Three minutes later and Thompson scored off the back of a Cherry-Evans grubber. The Manly halfback then converted to square the game up.
Cherry-Evans had a shot at field goal with seconds left in the match but he missed, however he didn't miss after just a minute of Golden Point to give his side a 33-32 victory.
Manly head home to host the Bulldogs next Saturday, while Cronulla have a daunting trip to Melbourne next Sunday.
