What Can We Expect From The 2019 Super League Season?

It's fair to say that the 2018 Super League season was one of the most entertaining in recent memory.

After beating Warrington in the Grand Final back in October, Wigan were crowned champions for a staggering 22nd time whilst St Helens landed the League Leader's Shield and London Broncos gained promotion from the Championship. With breathtaking weekends, some stunning tries and one of the most competitive title races to date, 2019 promises to be yet another thrilling year of Super League action but just what can we expect when the action gets back underway in around a months time?

The Resurgence of The Rhinos

After an extremely disappointing campaign last time out, Leeds Rhinos will be looking to right the wrongs of the 2018 season. The Rhinos finished 9th in last years Super League but new coach David Furner appears to have lifted spirits within the camp for the upcoming season. With an exciting crop of youngsters and three new overseas signings, the Rhinos could well surprise a few people this season. At 8/1 to win the Grand Final with the majority of rugby league betting, the Rhinos may not be fancied for the top prize but by the same token, it's unlikely the Yorkshire club will have another relegation battle on their hands.

Another Stellar Season From Johnstone

After narrowly missing out on the accolade of top try scorer last campaign, Tom Johnstone will be looking to go one better than last year. Despite missing the start of the season and being unfathomably dropped for a brief spell, Johnstone still managed an impressive haul of 23 tries and much of the smart money will be on him topping the charts this time around. The Wakefield Trinity man is arguably one of the best finishers in the modern game and, at the tender age of 23, has plenty of time before he hits his peak.

A Testing Season For The Broncos

London Broncos did remarkably well to get promoted from the Championship and in his debut season as a head coach, Danny Ward deserves all the plaudits in the world. However, you could argue that the promotion has come a little too early for the Broncos and many fear that they will struggle in the upcoming season. Whilst their plastic pitch will undoubtedly give them a puncher's chance in some games, Broncos simply don't have the resources to compete at the elite level; should they achieve it, survival would represent an even more impressive feat than last year's promotion.

The Countdown Begins..

If you're still suffering the effects from Christmas and New Year, then one look at the fixture list should get you in the mood for the upcoming Super League season. Grand Final winners Wigan start their campaign at bitter rivals St Helens and, with the Hull derby to look forward to the day after, the 2019 season promises to kick off with a bang.
