A look at what's making news in the rugby league world this Monday 4 March 2019.
The big injury news item to come from the weekend's trial action saw Melbourne fullback Scott Drinkwater suffer a ruptured pectoral muscle, the Storm club today confirming he'll miss at least 3-4 months of footy. Attention will now turn to the likely shift of Jahrome Hughes to fullback, Brodie Croft likely to come into the halves ahead of next Thursday's season opener against Brisbane.
Penrith have been forced to address two leaked videos across the weekend and into Monday, with Tyrone May stood down from Saturday's trial loss to the Eels, and now another video with a yet-unnamed player reportedly doing the rounds.
Winger Josh Mansour addressed the media on Monday morning, questioning the motives of the people spreading the videos.
It's better news for the Eels, whose Parramatta home ground is coming along nicely. The venue's turf was laid over the last few days, and this morning they offered a preview of the venue looking very close to completion.
Parramatta this morning confirmed rookie half Dylan Brown has been upgraded from a development contract. He joins the Eels' top 30 squad.
This morning the Wests Tigers confirmed that chairperson Marina Go would not be seeking re-election, as well as formalising the appointment of caretaker CEO Simon Cook, who also serves as CEO of Wests Ashfield Leagues Club. He'll act in the role until Justin Pascoe return from his NRL-enforced suspension in June.
Promoted Super League outfit the London Broncos have stunned followers of the Super League competition with a spirited 18-16 win over reigning premiers Wigan overnight. The club from the British capital led at halftime and managed to keep Wigan at arms length to record a vital win which leaves the Warriors sitting second-last after four matches. Elsewhere, Hull FC accounted comfortably for Huddersfield. Click here for the full Round 4 results wrap.
The NSW rugby league community is mourning the loss of Steve "Bear" Hall this week after he passed away late last week. He retired from official duties last year after spending much of his life dedicated to bush footy as well as coaching, development and mentoring roles with the Magpies and later Wests Tigers, and more recently the NSWRL.
You can read more about Bear's wonderful contribution to rugby league at the NSWRL website.
