Gold Coast Titans v Brisbane Broncos

Brisbane blitzed the Gold Coast in the first half, racking up five tries to one in order to set up a comfortable 34-12 victory over a Titans side that were never in the game tonight at Cbus Super Stadium.

In the 5th minute the Broncos received a penalty in good position and Kotoni Staggs had a shot at the penalty goal, but he missed. Several minutes later the Broncos opened the scoring when Corey Oates took an intercept and ran 90 metres to score untouched. Jamayne Isaako took over the goal kicking duties and converted.

A great run by David Fifita ended when he was tackled by Michael Gordon. Gordon though hung on too long in the tackle and was sin binned.

Within a minute after Gordon left the field Matt Lodge added to the Broncos score, when he crawled and stretched out to score a try, despite 3 defenders trying to stop him. Isaako added the extras.

Staggs crossed for a great try from the next set, after some great work by Anthony Milford. Isaako was unable to convert the try from out wide.

Tevita Pangai Jr was sin binned after his tackle on Philip Sami, who was fielding a bomb, was high.

The Broncos crossed for a try a minute later. This time Staggs scored his second try off the back of some second phase play in the middle close to the Titans line. He received the ball, stepped inside the cover defence, darted through the half gap and got the ball down for a good try. Isaako converted.

The Titans finally got on the scoreboard with 6 minutes left in the half, when Gordon ran like a front rower onto a short ball out the back, before barging over for a try close to the posts. Gordon converted.

On the stroke of halftime the Broncos crossed yet again after a basic right side movement lead to a long ball to Isaako, which caught the Titans left side defence short and he dived over for an easy try in the corner. Isaako converted nicely from touch.

The Titans scored first in the second half, when Anthony Don received the ball on the right side, stepped inside the first defender and then managed to just get across the line between two defenders to score a strong try. Gordon converted from touch.

Five minutes later the Broncos hit back when Milford scored a great solo try, brushing off two ordinary tackle attempts in the middle of the field, before running 30 metres to score under the posts. Isaako added the extras.

In the 60th minute, Jarrod Wallace made a good charge down, regathered and ran 40 metres before he was tackled from behind by Andrew McCullough. The tackle also saw the ball come loose.

The Titans had plenty of opportunity to score points in the last 10 minutes but they barely looked likely to score, the Broncos winning by 22 points and breaking back into the top 8.
