The Penrith Panthers look set to secure the 2020 minor premiership after accounting for the Brisbane Broncos 25-12 at Suncorp Stadium.
Scoring four tries to two to record their twelfth straight win this season, halfback Nathan Cleary was a standout for the visitors with two try-assists, four goals, two forced drop outs and a field goal.
Beginning the match with an intent rarely seen in 2020, the Broncos were rewarded with the opening try via Kotoni Staggs (9th minute) after building pressure through precision kicking from Sean O'Sullivan and Tom Dearden.
Working their way into the match after conceding the opening try for only the third time this season, Josh Mansour (24th minute) put the Panthers on level terms.
Taking the lead for the first time via a Nathan Cleary penalty goal, returning second-rower Kurt Capewell (36th minute) snared a crucial try to send the visitors to the sheds ahead 14-6.
Scoring a crucial try midway through the second half, Jarome Luai (56th minute) put the Panthers out beyond two converted tries despite appearing to knock-on in the act of grounding the ball.
Reducing the margin to eight-points heading into the final quarter, Maori front-rower Jordan Riki (62nd minute) claimed his first try in the top grade with a bullocking 45 metre run.
Securing the result with a try to Brian To'o (68th minute) and a late field goal from Cleary, the Panthers proved too strong to run out 25-12 winners.
Producing a much-improved showing after last week's embarrassing loss against the reigning premiers, the Broncos slumped to their eighth consecutive loss - equalling the club record set 17 years ago.
Next week, the Broncos face the Titans away from home on Saturday evening, while the Panthers take on the Eels at home on Friday night.
