South Sydney Rabbitohs v Brisbane Broncos

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have continued their strong start to 2021 by overpowering the Brisbane Broncos 35-6 at Stadium Australia.

Scoring six tries to one in a match where Adam Reynolds became the first NRL player to kick a two-point field goal, the Rabbitohs led from start to finish against an improving Broncos side unable to go the distance.

Picking right up from where they left off last week, the Rabbitohs opened the scoring with an enterprising try involving a cross-field kick, a flick pass and an offload to send Benji Marshall (7th minute) over for his first four-pointer in red and green colours.

The home side continued their strong start after Latrell Mitchell fired a superb pass to Alex Johnston (15th minute), who touched down for his fifth try in as many matches.

Striking back with an important try midway through the first half, Broncos fullback Jamayne Isaako (20th minute) demonstrated crafty footwork to put the visitors back in the contest.

Scoring an important try shortly before halftime, Dane Gagai sent Adam Reynolds (37th minute) underneath the posts, before the Rabbitohs number seven created history by kicking the first two-point field goal from 43 metres out to send the home side to the sheds leading 18-6.

Taking advantage of good field possession resulting from a penalty, Mitchell (51st minute) showcased his talents to power over for his fourth of the season.

Securing the result on the hour mark, Campbell Graham (61st minute) crashed over from a scrum, before Mitchell (76th minute) collected his second and added a late field goal in the shadows of fulltime.

Next week, the Rabbitohs host the Tigers at Stadium Australia on Saturday evening, while the Broncos return to Suncorp Stadium for a Thursday night match against the Panthers.
