The Newcastle Knights will be without captain and hooker Jayden Brailey for the first half of the 2022 NRL season, the club confirmed today.

In a club statement, it was confirmed he ruptured his left achilles tendon during a non-contact training session last Saturday.

He will undergo surgery this week to "repair the injury and determine his rehabilitation timeline, with hopes of a return to play in the second half of the 2022 season."

Newcastle's season starts on Saturday 12 March at the SCG when they visit the Roosters. The club will play two pre-season trials in late February, against Canterbury and Melbourne.
