Wigan Warriors piled on some points either side of half-time to repel a gallant late fightback from the Castleford Tigers.
It was the visitors who struck first through the boot of Gareth O'Brien before the Wigan side responded with a four-pointer to Zac Hardaker to make it 4-2.
From there, Wigan Warriors extended their lead with a double to winger Liam Marshall which gave them a healthy buffer headed into the break. Castleford did pull one back through Greg Eden for a 10-6 score line.
The Warriors were the smarter of the teams after the break with Ethan Havard and former NRL star Jai Field scoring alongside three Hardaker goals extended their lead to 28-6.
Castleford Tigers gave the Warriors a fright in the finishing stages with tries to prop Greg Griffin, five-eighth Jake Trueman and centre Jake Mamo brought it back to 28-22.
Two late penalty goals from the assured Hardaker ensured the Warriors took home the two points. The winger had a solid night with the boot kicking six out of seven goals.

Hull KR led at the break against Grand Finalists Catalan Tigers before a Joe Chan four-pointer send the home fans away happy.
The Dragons were the first to hit the scoreboard through the boot of Sam Tomkins to make it 2-0 before winger Foud Yaha dived over to make it 8-0.
Tomkins continued to have a love affair with the kicking tee. He kicked another penalty goal to stretch the Dragons advantage to double digits.
Hull KR got into their groove in the 24###sup
In a second half where chances were at a premium, the Dragons were the only side to cross the whitewash through prop Joe Chan. A late Tomkins penalty goal gave us the final score line of 18-10.

A flurry of late points from Salford Red Devils secured them two points against a plucky Leeds Rhinos side on Friday night.
The visitors were the first to find the try line through forward MIkolaj Oledzki before Salford responded through winger Ken Sio to lock it up at 6-6.
Leeds nudged their nose ahead on the half hour mark when winger Ash Handley dived over to make it 10-8. The Rhinos were reduced to 12 just before the break due to a Bodene Thompson sin-bin.
It was another Rhinos sin-bin this time to Zane Tetevano which gave the Red Devils a route back into the contest. Chris Aitken breached the Rhinos diminished defence then a Marc Sneyd goal gave Salford the lead at 12-10.
Scores from Elijah Taylor and Sneyd helped balloon the score line out for the 5,766 fans inside the AJ Bell Stadium and sent the Red Devils fans into their weekend the happier of the two fan groups.

Wakefield Trinity took home the points in a 16-point success against a spirited Warrington Wolves side in a Super League afternoon delight.
Despite the early kick-off, it wasn't a sleepy opening in Warrington as Wolves lead 12-6. Three tries were scored in the first 20 minutes of the contest.
Wolves scored through backs Matthew Ashton and Toby King while hooker Liam Hood crossed for the visitors. Trinity silenced the crowd with quickfire scores to Jordan Crowther and Corey Hall to snatch the lead.
In a game which was tightly contested, it was fitting the teams went into the break at 18-all when Wolves hooker Danny Walker went in for a four-pointer.
Both sides traded tries once more in the second half with Josh Thewlis diving over for the Wolves before former Warriors half Mason Lino levelled for Trinity at 24-all.
From there, Trinity finally put the contest to bed with Morgan Escare's late try after Lino had booted a penalty goal to give us the final score line of 38-22 for the visitors.

Paul Marcon's late try saw Toulouse register their first even win in Super League against three-times champions St Helens in France.
Toulouse got off to the perfect start when Matthew Russell scored the first try of the contest within the first two minutes of the game getting underway.
The Saints hit back in ruthless fashion with back-to-back tries to Tommy Makinson and Josh Simm helping the Champions to a narrow 8-6 lead.
Dominique Peyroux put the hosts back ahead at the 20 minute mark but Saints nudged ahead again when fullback Jack Welsby scored for a 14-12 advantage at the break.
It looked like the Saints would march back across the channel with the two points when interchange player Dan Norman crossed combined with Lewis Dodd's conversion made it 20-12.
Toulouse didn't read the script, crossing twice in the final fifteen minutes to snatch the two points and open their account for 2022.
Chris Hankinson and Paul Marcon were the try scorers in the historic win for the promoted side in a game where Hankinson's three goals were the difference.

Hull FC did all their work before the hour mark to secure the points in a 14-6 success against Huddersfield Giants at Hull Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The hosts scored the only points of the first half through centre Miteli Vulikijapani quickly followed by a Ben McNamara conversion for the 6-0 lead.
Hull FC extended their lead to eight from the boot of McNamara again in the 48###sup
The visitors who had a chance to draw level with St Helens had their task made harder when fullback Will Pryce was sent off for a dangerous tackle.
Huddersfield Giants gave them a slight scare in the final ten minutes when former Rabbitoh Chris McQueen broke their duck. Tui Lolohea converted for the 14-6 final score.
