Warriors edge Hull FC in Thursday thriller

Harry Smith's drop goal continued Wigan Warriors strong start to the Super League season against a dogged Hull FC side.

Livewire Warriors fullback Jai Field electrified the opening with the first four-pointer of the contest to give the hosts the lead within four minutes.

Hull FC struck back in style with back-to-back tries to winger Adam Swift and hooker Danny Houghton with both converted giving the black-and-whites a 12-6 lead at the break.

Havard made it tries in back-to-back weeks to draw the Warriors level with his effort in a contest which swung like a pendulum to kick off Round 7.

The visitors once again had the advantage when Tevita Satae barged over to make it 18-12 as they eyed the chance to lower the colours of the Warriors.

In the end, Warriors had to enough firepower to take the points. Field popped up again to make it a double and leave the game in the balance at 18-all headed into the final fifteen minutes.

The dagger came in the final two minutes from young Warriors halfback Harry Smith who drilled his second field goal of the season for a priceless 19-18 win for the cherries.

Huddersfield bounce back with Giant win against Catalans

Huddersfield Giants registered a comfortable win 28-12 against last year's Grand Finalists Catalans Dragons on April Fool's Day Friday.

The Dragons started bright with the first four-pointer of the game with centre Samisoni Langi the try scorer as they aimed to build on their win last week.

That try stung the hosts into action with them finding the whitewash twice to snatch the lead headed into half-time. Owen Trout and hooker Danny Levi were the scorers for the Giants.

Catalans reduced the deficit to four right on the half-time buzzer. Dragons winger Tom Davies dived over in the corner to make it 12-8 and breathe life into the contest.

Most of the points scored in the second half were for the home side. Theo Fages extended their lead with his try before second rower Josh Jones put icing on the result in the final ten minutes to get the Giants back in the winner's circle.

The only points in the second half for Catalans was for try-scoring prop forward Joe Chan who made it tries in back-to-back weeks on the hour mark.

Robins take flight in Wolves win

Hull KR's first half blitz was enough for them to down Warrington Wolves 34-18 at a sold-out Craven Park on Friday night.

The whistle sounded like an alarm for Hull KR as the Robins piled on the points in the opening twenty minutes to lead 20-0 headed into halftime and stun the Wolves.

Frankie Halton, Ryan Hall, Lachlan Coote and Jimmy Keinhorst were the four players to cross the whitewash in the rampant rampage as Hull KR flexed their muscles.

It felt like Groundhog Day for Warrington just after half-time with Hull KR scoring twice through five-eighth Mikey Lewis and interchange player Jez Litten to heap more further pain on the visitors.

Wolves crossed the stripe once in the first half through Peter Mata'utia then added some respectability to the scoreline in the second through George Williams and fullback Josh Thewlis.

Ryan Hall rounded off the dominant Robins performance with his second four-pointer after the hour mark. Lachlan Coote booted three conversions for a personal haul of 10 points.

Saints stamp over Leeds and keep them to nil

St Helens responded to their shock loss to Toulouse with a thumping 26-nil over Leeds Rhinos on Friday night at a stunned Headingley Stadium.

Fittingly it was a former Rhino that opened the scoring for St Helens with powerhouse centre Konrad Hurrell returned to haunt his former side.

Tommy Makinson kept up his superb try-scoring form with a double in the demolition of the Rhinos which took him into double digits for four-pointers in 2022.

Rounding off the scoring was scores from the Saints halves. Lewis Dodds and Jonny Lomax got themselves tries in an emphatic win from the reigning champions which sent a signal to the rest of the Super League competition.

For the Rhinos it was a similar sight being in the loser's column against St Helens and continues their terrible start to the 2022 season which has them near the relegation zone.

Wakefield Trinity hold off dangerous Devils in thriller

Wakefield Trinity won 30-24 off their impressive first half display against a resilient Salford Red Devils side on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts were in scintillating form in the first half and started with a bang when halfback Jacob Miller crossed the try line in the opening ten minutes.

That started to open the floodgates for Wakefield with an impressive first half double from Tom Johnstone the highlight who showed all his full range of skills in both scores.

Johnstone started the movement which saw Reece Lyne dive over just over the half hour mark and had Wakefield leading 24-4 at the break.

Salford Red Devils did briefly make it 6-4 in the first half when veteran centre Tim Lafai broke free and set up Welsh winger Rhys Williams for a score.

The visitors did turn the tide of the contest after half-time with Deon Cross giving them the perfect start with a four-pointer quickly followed by Ken Sio to make it 24-14.

When Williams crossed for his double, there was belief for the Red Devils that they could stage a huge comeback win but wayward goal kicking from Marc Sneyd curtailed their comeback.

There was relief for Wakefield when second rower Jay Pitts crashed over to stretch their lead back out to 12 points and secure the win despite Sio's late score for the Red Devils.
