Tigers hold off fast finishing Rhinos

Castleford Tigers held on during a dramatic final 10 minutes to secure a 16-14 Super League victory over the Leeds Rhinos at home.

All attention was on the debut of Jack Sinfield, carrying the famous surname of his father Kevin. But it was clear that the Tigers were going to rain on Jack's parade when James Clare crossed in the opening ten minutes carrying defenders over the line.

Nine minutes later, Derrel Olpherts crossed finishing off a wonderful play that started in their own end to lead 8-0. Their margin could've been better, but the video referee took it off them for a knock-on.

Leeds grabbed a try before half-time when Sinfield landed a pin-point grubber which was spilled in the in-goal. This allowed Rhyse Martin to dive on the loose ball and reduce the margin to two.

Martin potted over a penalty goal to tie the ball game up. Gareth O'Brien potted the first goal of the afternoon of the Tigers to give them a two point lead.

Liam Watts charged over inside the final ten minutes following a great bust through the middle park. More importantly, he crossed under the posts to give them a two converted try. Martin crossed for a second try inside the final two minutes, he converted the try to get it to two points. But the final play was unsuccessful for Leeds and the Tigers hung on for victory.

Premiers hang on for determined victory

St Helens are continuing their strong-hold on the Super League season downing the Huddersfield Giants 24-12.

It was the premiers that crossed for the first try when Jon Bennison crossed virtually untouched to give them a six point lead. Hudderfield hung in there and didn't let the premiers to cross the try for the remainder of the first half. The Giants' defensive efforts were rewarded when Ashton Golding crossed in the right corner to tie the game up.

Both sides exchanged penalty goals in the run up to half-time and the game was evenly poised at 8-8 at the change of ends. St Helens crossed straight after half-time when Mark Percival charged over against some paper thin Giants defence to give them a six point lead.

Huddersfield hit back almost immediately when Tui Lolohea crossed off an intercept which saw him race 100 meters to score. Joe Batchelor restored the order straight after the hour mark when Batchelor raced past more sloppy defence to give Saints an eight point advantage. Johnny Lomax crossed inside the final five minutes beating three Giants defenders to cross and seal the match with a handy 12 point advantage.

Fire-breathing Dragons tame Red Devils

It appears, the early slow start to Catalans season has well and truly ended with a dominating performance over the Salford Red Devils.

It was a promising start for Salford when Deon Lewis Cross crossed inside the opening five minutes to give the Red Devils an early 6-0 advantage, but it would be the end of their scoring for just a touch over an hour. Three minutes later, the Dragons hit back when Mathieu Laguerre crossed out-wide running the perfect line to lock the game at 6-6.

Just before the half-way point in the opening half, Tom Davies finished a good Catalans set play to put the visitors up by six. Mitchell Pearce continued his recent run of good form, when he crossed just before the break to give the visitors a handy two converted try lead.

The second 40 was dominated by the visitors. Matt Whitley crossed after the break, finishing off a poor pass deep inside Salford's end which was caught by Whitley and he ran over untouched. Sam Kasiano barged over to seal the game just shy of the hour mark. Ken Sio bagged a consolation for the home side before Pearce re-established the twenty six point margin just on full-time.

Rampaging Warriors thump sorry Wildcats

The Wigan Warriors raced back to form thumping Wakefield Trinity by 44 points in a convincing and dominating display.

Wakefield surprised everyone at DW Stadium by scoring the first try in the eleventh minute of play when Tom Minns finished off a great backline play which gave his side a shock early advantage. However, the Wildcats lead didn't last long, Bevan French fooled the Wakefield defence when he sprinted 60 meters to cross untouched to give the home side a two point lead.

Three minutes later, Wigan grabbed a second when Brad Singleton crashed over virtually untouched for the first of his two tries and extended the margin out to two converted tries. Some more soft defence saw Wigan break the line once more and French was there to cross for his second as Wakefield were slowly losing touch. Former Manly winger Abbas Miski crossed in one of his rare appearances this season to give Wigan a 20 point half-time advantage.

Wigan applied the blow torch to start the second 40 with four tries in the opening fifteen minutes of the second half. Matty Smith stepped his way through some sloppy defence to get over for the first of the half, before Jai Field fired a quickfire double in the space of three minutes before Cade Cust crossed off enterprising play and Wigan had a 44 point advantage. Jacob Miller crossed for some scoreboard credibility for the visitors before Singleton crossed to put Wigan beyond the half-century in what was a fairly one sided encounter.

So close, yet so far for Toulouse as Hull complete second half a comeback

After a scoreless first half that would've sent their fans back from France before full-time, Hull KR sprung to life to score 28 second half points to come from behind to beat Toulouse Olympique.

It was a flawless start from the home side when the scored first inside the first twenty minutes. Lucas Albert backed up in support after a great break down their left edge to cross for the opening try of the contest. Toulouse's goal line attack was rewarded with their second try when Mitch Garbutt crashed over from point-blank range and the home side had a deserving 12-0 advantage.

Rovers soon realised they had a game to play and wasted little time, when Ryan Hall crossed barely 60 seconds into the second half finishing off a crisp movement which included a lovely ball from Shaun Kenny-Dowall. Toulouse were next to score when Paul Marcon finished a lovely movement that started in their own end to lead 18-4.

Rovers quickly put together three tries in the space of eleven minutes to take the lead. Hall completed his double finishing off a great pass from Jordan Abdull. George King reduced the gap to just two points before the hour mark, crashing over from short-range. Toulouse's defence crumbled conceding quick tries to Abdull and Matty Storton to put the game beyond doubt. A late second try to Marcon brought some late hope, but it wasn't to be for the struggling newcomers.

Ma'u's late try gives Hull the Verdict

A late try by Manu Ma'u was the difference in an enthralling Super League clash between Hull FC and the Warrington Wolves.

After both sides traded early field position, Hull scored first off the back of Ben Currie receiving a yellow card for pulling back Jordan Lane in a try-scoring position. Jamie Shaul was rewarded by finishing off a flowing move from right to left to give the home side an early lead. Five minutes later, lively hooker Daryl Clark capitalised on some tired Hull defence when he took a quick tap and raced away to score locking us level again.

Brad Fash crashed over for Hull with fifteen to go before the break when he took a lovely short pass from Luke Gale to touch down. But not to be outdone, the Wolves crossed with a decisive blow before half-time when Matty Ashton crossed for the first of his two tries and with Widdop's conversion, the scores were locked at half-time.

In a tense second half, both sides blew golden opportunities to score minutes into the second half, with Toby King intercepting a vital last pass from Jamie Shaul to stop Hull before the big centre's final pass in space was knocked on at the other end. Ashton completed his double in the final ten minutes and we were set for a grandstand finish. But, former NRL player Manu Ma'u silenced the Wolves with a late try, crashing his way over and with Gale's kick Hull FC were home and hosed.
