Huddersfield slip past trying Wildcats

A late Ricky Leutele tries in the final quarter-hour saw Huddersfield register their first victory in Wakefield since 2015 with a 14-12 win.

It was Wakefield who got off to the flying start when Mason Lino crossed after sixteen minutes after throwing a dummy and running into a massive gap and the Wildcats had a 6-0 advantage. Nine minutes later, Chris McQueen hit and spun his way to the line to cross for his seventh try of the season as the margin was just two points.

Huddersfield conceded a hammer blow just on the half-time siren when Lewis Murphy finished off a great team try with some silky stepping. Lino's conversion was successful and the Wildcats shocked everyone with an 8 point advantage at half-time.

Straight after the break, Luke Yates charged over off a lovely short ball from Theo Fages to reduce the gap to two points. It was a titanic struggle for much of the second half until Ricky Leutele crossed with just over fifteen minutes to play winning the race to a Fages grubber kick. This Giants win sets them up nicely for their Challenge Cup semi-final against Hull KR.

Dragons breathing fire against toothless Tigers

Catalans have bounced back after their shock upset to Hull FC slaughtering the Castleford Tigers 44-12.

Catalans got off to a fast start when Julien Bosquet charged over from short range. If that wasn't an ominous sign for the Tigers, then the way Mitchell Pearce scored should've sent alarm bells ringing as Tyrone May broke the line with ease.

If that was bad enough, May did it all on his own on the next set down Castleford's end of the ground setting up an early 16-0 lead. Castleford hit back with fifteen to go before the break when Gareth O'Brien ran the best part of 40 meters untouched to get the Tigers back in the game.

The fightback was short-lived when Mathieu Laguerre grabbed the first of his three tries and give Catalans a 22-6 half-time advantage. After the break, it was much of the same when Arthur Mourgue crossed off a lovely ball from May to give them a 22 point lead.

Matt Whitley crossed next running through some shy Tigers defence and it was beginning to look embarrassing. Laguerre crossed for his second after collecting a lovely bounce off a May chip kick. Tigers got one back through Jason Qaraqare who raced away to score off an intercept from May. Before Laguerre completed his hattrick collecting a Mitchell Pearce grubber to give us the final score line of 44-12.

Leeds hold Rovers to nil

It's a game that won't be remembered for it's attack in the classics, but Leeds have held Hull KR to nil in their Super League clash today.

It was Leeds who got off to a fast start, when Blake Austin's grubber wasn't cleaned up by Ethan Ryan.

Matt Prior was jolly on the spot to cross for the game's opening try. Rhyse Martin converted from in front for a 6-0 lead.

Rovers were denied a four-pointer in the second half when Ryan Hall was brought back for a forward pass.

Almost immediately afterwards, Leeds went back to the kick and when Sam Wood couldn't clean up, hooker Morgan Gannon was in the right place at the right time to score and extend the margin to 10.

Wood would leave the game for Hull with a suspected lower leg injury. Martin added a penalty goal just on the hour mark to give Leeds a well earnt 12-0 victory.

Saints pluck out win over Red Devils

St Helens rebounded off a last-start loss to defeat Salford Red Devils 14-10 in a scrappy Super League encounter. Saints had their minds on next week's Challenge Cup semi-final.

After Saints survived a period in which Jack Welsby found a ticket to the sin bin. Salford pounced when Morgan Escare sold a dummy to the defence and sliced through for the opening try and a 6-0 lead.

St Helens hit back fifteen minutes before the break when Ben Davies crossed after a lovely offload from Welsby, but they still trailed by two points. Welsby had a try of his own just four minutes later, when he dived on a Joey Lussick grubber kick to score and give the home side a slender four-point advantage.

It was a scrappy second half for both sides, who both had numerous scoring opportunities. Salford finally broke the duck for the second half with just over ten minutes to play when Matt Costello crossed finishing off a lovely set play, locking the scoreline at 10 all.

Salford's discipline would be their downfall though. As they conceded two penalties which saw Tommy Makinson pot over the respective penalty goals. Salford had a late chance off an intercept, but they dropped the ball with the line in sight.

Wigan in total control against the Wolves

Wigan never look troubled against Warrington as they charged to an 18 point victory over their Super League rivals.

Wigan opened the scoring in just the third minute of play when Iain Thornley crossed in the right corner brushing past some poor defence to lead 6-0. Warrington responded four minutes later when Riley Dean crossed breaking through some Wigan defenders to immediately tie the game back up.

Three minutes later, Thornley nabbed his double when he collected a Jai Field pass and scored in the corner for a six-point advantage. After the frantic opening, the defence took over for a period, before Field broke the game open with an electrifying run before linking up with Bevan French for the 18-6 advantage. Warrington wouldn't go away and three minutes later, Matty Ashton crossed to make the margin eight points. But, just at half-time, Liam Farrell crossed after storming onto a Pat Mago offload and Wigan led by 14 at the break.

It was all Wigan in the second half, and the carnage began when Liam Marshall completed a quickfire double in the space of three minutes which opened up a 34-10 lead. Ethan Havard scored try number seven for the Warriors before the Wolves, who had Daryl Clark sin-binned, claimed late consolation tries through Danny Walker and Peter Mata'utia to put some respect on the scoreline.

Hull slaughter Olympique

Hull FC have continued their recent good run of form downing Super League strugglers Toulouse Olympique 48-12.

Toulouse made an fast and furious start and posted the first points through Junior Vaivai, who collected a delicate Anthony Marion kick through to score for the early 6-0 lead.

Hull responded picking up three tries in the space of ten minutes. Darnell Mcintosh finished off a lovely set play in the right corner to score the first of his three tries. Before Connor Wynne finished off a lovely move down the opposite edge for a four-point lead. Fill in halfback Joe Lovodua crossed running a great line to extend the margin to ten.

Mcintosh grabbed his second just after the half-hour mark finishing off a planned move down the right edge. Right before the break, Hull was running riot when Wynne too also grabbed his second crashing over against some would-be tacklers.

Toulouse grabbed the first of the second half to show some interest when Anthony Marion, who barged his way through defenders from close range to reduce the margin to 14. But from there it was all the black and whites.

Denive Balmforth capped off his Super League debut with a lovely try supporting a well-worked set play before Mcintosh and Wynne capped off their hattricks with individual brilliance down each edge of the field. Before Kane Evans showed off some skills more suited to the round ball game, when he kicked ahead and won the race to the loose ball capping off a horror afternoon for Toulouse.
