Sloppy Sharks too good for flat Titans

Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks v Gold Coast Titans

Cronulla never looked threatened in their match against the last placed Gold Coast Titans, despite a low scoring 18-10 win.

Both sides turned the ball over so regularly that you'd be forgiven for thinking it was played in wet weather.

The Sharks scored in the 10th minute when a right-side play resulted in William Kennedy tapping on a pass brilliant and perfectly to his unmarked winger and Sione Katoa strolled in to score in the corner. Nicho Hynes failed to convert from touch.

Six minutes later, the Sharks extended their lead and it looked like they were in a mood to rack up a big score, when Matt Moylan received a ball on the left side. Stepped off his left foot, straightened his run and went through the tattered Titans goal line defence to score a good solo try. Hynes converted.

The Gold Coast Titans responded almost immediately when AJ Brimson ran down the short side, created an overlap and put Beau Fermor into space. The big man raced away, before throwing a perfectly timed dummy, which Kennedy fell for. Fermor then ran in to score a good try. Jamayne Isaako converted.

The Titans equalised in the 24th minute when Greg Marzhem scored a brilliant try when he managed to score in the left corner, despite looking like he was going to be bundled into touch by Ronaldo Mulitalo. Isaako failed to convert from out wide. The scores remained lock at 10 apiece until halftime.

Five minutes after play resumed, Moylan put Teig Wilton through a small gap with a lovely short ball. Wilton progressed up to the Titans line before getting a good offload away to Blayke Brailey in support and the talented rake dived over to score. Hynes converted to give the Sharks the lead again.

Hynes added a penalty in the 60th minute to give the Sharks an 8 point buffer on the scoreboard.

Both sides went close to scoring on a number of occasions in the final 20 minutes, but more frequent was the ill-discipline, poor ball control and placid last tackle options by both sides. A manic last few seconds saw both sides almost score but fittingly, neither did.
