Rhinos defeat Giants in midweek thriller

Leeds Rhinos moved closer to the top four with 18-14 win against Huddersfield Giants on Wednesday night.

The hosts were off to a hot start after a long break which ended with second rower Rhyse Martin on the spot from a kick for 6-0.

Huddersfield responded in kind through Ricky Leutele in the left corner after some superb work from Tui Lolohea to reduce the deficit to 6-4.

Their hopes were further enhanced when Leeds halfback Blake Austin was binned for a shoulder charge which allowed Louis Senior to put the Giants ahead.

Back with their full complement to start the second half, Leeds once again took the lead when Richie Myler scooted down the short side to make it 12-8.

Giants fought back again when Leroy Cudjoe was able to touch down on the right side to make it 12-all with Leeds again reduced to 12 after Aiden Sezer was binned.

It was all flowing the way of the Giants when a penalty close to the line saw Oliver Russell kick his only goal of the night to make it 14-12 for the visitors.

Chris Hill was the third person but the first for the Giants to see a card after his dangerous tackle on Myler which set the stage for a frantic finish.

Leeds took home the points when Austin was able to slice through the defence to send the x fans at Headingley home happy.

Dragons take French bragging rights as Toulouse relegated

Catalans Dragons once again won the French derby in a 24-14 win which saw Toulouse Olympique relegated on Thursday night.

The Dragons snapped their two-game losing streak in style and swept the season series against closest neighbours Toulouse Olympique.

It is a sad end to their debut season for Toulouse Olympique. They go straight back down to the Championship after having some hope in the last month.

Foud Yaha added another hat-trick to his tally for the season, all scored in the first half which gave Catalans Dragons a 12-8 lead going into the break.

Toulouse showed some fight late in the first half with Chris Hankinson scoring all eight points for the home side to bring them within four points with Catalans Josh Drinkwater in the bin.

It was another fast start for Catalans in the second half. Forward Gil Dudson and Tyrone May both found the stripe to make it 24-8 and on course for two points.

There were some fireworks in the derby with Sam Tomkins sent to the bin after a shoulder charge on Oliver Ashall-Bott after a coming together from Daniel Alvaro and Paul Seguier earlier.

Toulouse did have the final say on a sad night for the club. Ashall-Bott raced away after he recovered from the shoulder charge to make it 24-14.

Wakefield Trinity will be in the Super League for 2023 after their second half comeback 18-6 win over Hull KR on Thursday night.

In a big game for both sides, it was tense inside Be Well Support Stadium with the first half one of drama but not a lot of points.

The only points of the first half went to Hull KR. Albert Vete drove over from close range and his effort converted for a 6-0 lead.

Wakefield Trinity went close several times but couldn't break the line. They did start the second half with a man advantage after Jimmy Keinhorst was binned for Hull KR.

The hosts finally broke the resolve just after half-time when Lee Kershaw found the try line in the right corner followed by a conversion by Max Jowitt that leveled the scores.

Coming off his hat-trick last weekend, Lewis Murphy put Wakefield Trinity ahead for the first time when he produced an acrobatic effort for 12-6.

The local fans were able to calm their nerves late in the piece when Jowitt added the third score followed by a celebratory conversion from David Fifita to confirm their safety.

Salford hold spot in the top six after comeback against Hull FC

The Red Devils were made to work for their 26-18 win to remain sixth against a weary Hull FC side on Thursday night.

Fresh from their huge win last week, Salford picked up where they left off through Kallum Watkins with the opener before Will Smith dived over for Hull FC to make it 6-6.

The two sides traded scores again in the first half when Rhys Williams touched down from a Tim Lafai pass then Hull forward Brad Fash responded for 10-all.

It has been a rough few week for Hull FC but a late Luke Gale penalty goal gave the injury ravaged side a slender two-point lead headed into half-time.

Salford showed why they are the best attacking sides in Super League with a pair of scores right after the breakthrough Ken Sio and Deon Cross for the larger advantage of the night.

The visitors did give the Red Devils a scare when Jake Connor crossed from some slick combination play to bring the game back to 22-18.

Tigers keep hopes alive with dramatic win over Wolves

Castleford Tigers kept the Super League Playoffs hopes alive with a 19-18 win against Warrington Wolves on Thursday night.

Warrington Wolves looking to rebound after their loss to Leeds last weekend were on fire early with mid-season signing Matt Dufty getting them on the board.

Next it was a historic score for Wolves fullback Stefan Ratchford. He weaved past the Tigers defence for his century of tries in Super League to make it 12-0.

The Tigers were their own worst enemy in the first half. The visitors made errors and probably should've been further behind but did go close through Greg Eden late.

Needing someone to step up, Danny Richardson heeded the call for the Tigers. He provided the kick for Jake Mamo to get them on the board at 12-6.

The halfback was involved again with a delightful pass which sent winger Derrell Olpherts over in the corner to level things up in a flash.

Richardson put Castleford ahead for the first time with his field goal on the hour mark then a second four-pointer to Olpherts stretched the advantage to seven.

The Wolves set up a grandstand finish when Peter Mata'utia brought it back to 19-18 but George Williams had a long range field goal go wide to send us to Golden Point.

Wigan derby delight forces Saints into wait for League Leaders Shield

Warriors take the derby spoils 30-10 against Super League leaders St Helens under the Friday night lights to add trophy wait.

It was the visiting Saints that took the league in the first five minutes when Jonny Lomax piloted home a penalty goal after a high tackle.

Who else but Super League's top try scorer Bevan French to respond for Wigan Warriors with another wonderful finish that had to be confirmed by the video decision.

Next it was Wigan's other Australian livewire, Jai Field which extended their lead to 12-2 after he trailed a long break and strode away easily.

Wigan furthered their advantage just before the break when Liam Farrell slipped, slide and sliced through the Saints defence to give the hosts a 16-point lead.

A win would confirm the League Leaders Shield for St Helens and they reduced the deficit through Joey Lussick who burrowed under the defence.

The Warriors extinguished the hopes of a comeback off another long score. Liam Marshall poked through down the left side and despite falling over, was able to make it 24-6.

Saints added another late score through Joe Batchelor out wide before French rounded off the display after a Kai Pearce-Paul offload sent Warriors faithful into delirium.
