Red Devils move into the top four with win over Robins
Salford Red Devils won 26-16 over Hull KR to kick off Magic Weekend in Newcastle on Saturday night.
These two kicked off Magic Weekend in bright sunshine and brought football to match to get things going with a bang.
It was the Robins who were flying early from a break that saw them exchange passes and ended with Elliot Minchella to dive over under the sticks.
Salford responded in kind with their own break. Brodie Croft sliced through and found a trailing Joe Burgess to make it 6-6.
The Red Devils edged ahead after Mikey Lewis was pinged for offside which allowed Marc Sneyd to pilot home the kick to make it 8-6.
The see-saw nature of the contest continued when Hull KR struck back through another forward as George King powered over the line.
The Red Devils kicked a penalty goal either side of the half-time break to lock things up again and set up for thrilling final act.
Sneyd who was playing game number 300 was becoming tethered to the tee. He kicked a fourth penalty goal after Dean Hadley was binned for a late shot.
Despite being down a man, Hull KR struck again. They stripped the numbers on the left then Kane Linnett flicked it to Ryan Hall to finish acrobatically.
Salford struck twice to ultimately take the win. Ryan Brierley broke free then set up Ken Sio for the four-pointer then Chris Aitken put the icing on the cake to make it 26-16.

Dragons go top with win over Warriors
Catalans Dragons lit up Magic Weekend with a 46-22 win over Wigan Warriors on Saturday afternoon in Newcastle.
The Warriors were the first side to score in a game which saw 68 points scored. They gave the ball air on the left and ended with Jake Wardle scoring the try.
The French side struck back from the boot. A kick went high and into the pack and it ended up with Sam Tomkins picking up the scraps.
Catalans were prolific attacking the left with their next two scores. Tom Johnstone dived over from a scrum then Matt Whitley surged over.
They were in full flow in the sunshine when Arthur Mourgue sliced through the Warriors defense and made it 24-4 for the Dragons.
Wigan pulled one back before the break. It was an exchange of passes on the right which ended with prolific try scorer Bevan French touch down.
The Dragons came out of the half breathing fire. Sam Tomkins hoisted up a kick which saw a flying Johnstone grasp it and make it double.
Everything was coming easy for the Dragons. Whitley dived over again for a double then Arthur Romano added himself to the scoresheet to help them pass 40.
Johnstone completed his hat-trick in style. It was a slick backline move which ended with the winger finished off acrobatically to make it 46-8.
The Warriors added a trio of tries in the final 20 minutes to massage the scoreline. Wingers Abbas Miski and Liam Marshall crossed alongside Morgan Smithies in a 46-22 final score.

Tigers stun Rhinos in Magic thriller
Castleford Tigers won a thriller 26-24 over Leeds Rhinos to round off Saturday on Magic Weekend in Newcastle.
The Rhinos were the first to score through a former Tiger as Darrell Olpherts finished off a backline move to dive over in the left corner.
Castleford responded in kind through with a break. Gareth Widdop set up the move which saw his halves partner Jacob Miller touch down.
Once again, Widdop was involved for the Tigers in their second score. He fired the ball out to Elliot Wallis who walked the tightrope on the sideline to make it 10-6.
Leeds took the lead into half-time after some improv play. They kept it going on last tackle before a kick ended with James Bentley planting the ball down.
They took that momentum into the second half and extended their lead. It was slick pass from Blake Austin which put Rhyse Martin into the gap to make it 18-10.
The Tigers pulled one back again from the hand of Widdop. He showed some slight of hand with his pass to a rampaging Alex Mellor to get back within four.
Leeds restored their advantage to ten points with their fourth try. Mikolaj Oledzki finished off the work from forward partner Bentley to make it 24-14.
Castleford Tigers stunned the Rhinos with a pair of late tries to snatch the win. Mellor completed his double with his score then Jason Qareqare completed the win.

12-man Leopards continue Trinity's woes
Leigh Leopards survived being down to 11 players at one stage to win 30-4 over Wakefield Trinity to kick off Sunday afternoon on Magic Weekend.
The Leopards ignited their attack early with Papua New Guinea international Lachlan Lam slicing through and beating the defender to the line for a 4-0 lead.
They doubled their delight minutes later. They swept the ball back towards the middle and a short pass sent Robbie Mulhern over untouched.
Despite the lead. Leigh were reduced to firstly 12 men when Ben Reynolds was sent off for a punch then 11 after Tom Nisbet was sent to the sin bin.
Wakefield despite this advantage weren't able to make it count. Tom Lineham went closest but he dropped the ball over the line as the Leopards held them off until half-time.
Leigh dominated the game with twelve men. They weaved past the Trinity defense with their passing and Edwin Ipape finished off the move.
On the hour mark, they stripped the numbers on the wing well and Josh Charnley had the simplest of putdowns for 24-0.
The Leopards were chasing 30 points to take third and Lam got them to the required score. He weaved past the Trinity defense again and touched down.
Wakefield Trinity did get some consolation with a late four-pointer to Max Jowitt but their Super League life is starting to fade.

Saints rout Giants in Newcastle sun
Tom Makinson scored four as St Helens won 48-6 over Huddersfield Giants on Sunday afternoon at Magic Weekend.
It was the Giants who struck first. A wide kick missed everyone, but former Saint Kevin Naiqama was able to touchdown in the corner.
From there, Saints kicked into gear. Their first came from a kick as well which saw Konrad Hurrell dive over then Mark Percival put them into the lead after his four-pointer.
Things went from bad to worse for Huddersfield when Luke Yates was binned for a cannonball tackle. St Helens extended their advantage to 16-6 after Tom Makinson got his first.
The second half was where the Saints were ruthless. They scored 32 points in the half and laid down a big marker on their Super League rivals.
Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook got the train started with a charging run which ended with the veteran slamming the ball down close to the posts.
Makinson had a day out. He scored 28 of the Saints 48 points which included three tries in the second half alongside six conversions in the game.
Hurrell and Joey Lussick rounded off the scoring for St Helens in the dominant win which has them on the edge of the top four after Magic Weekend.

Hull FC dent the Wolves chances to be top dog
Hull FC produced a stirring second half to win 30-18 over Warrington Wolves to round out Magic Weekend on Sunday afternoon.
The Wolves had a chance go back to the top of the Super League ladder and started the game quickly with a pair of scores.
Connor Wrench found the try line three minutes in before halfback George Williams four-pointer doubled their delight to 12-0.
Hull FC who has been in good form recently, responded with a score of their own through Danny Houghton to give us the half-time score of 12-6.
They turned the game around in a 20-minute salvo after half-time. Adam Swift touched down to get Hull FC back within two and make it game on.
Josh Griffin starred for Hull FC with a hat-trick that put them in a commanding position. The second rower completed the feat in 18 minutes to make it 24-18.
The Wolves did find the line once themselves in this passage with Wrench completing his double to keep the high flying side in the contest.
Hull FC confirmed the two points in the final ten minutes. Australian Tex Hoy scored the black-and-whites six try and get them back in the winner's circle.
