Gold Coast Titans got themselves back in the winner's circle with a 28-12 win over Wests Tigers on Thursday night at Robina Stadium.
There was no second half fade from the Titans tonight, as they did enough to get two valuable points against fellow strugglers Wests Tigers to kick off Round 15 in the National Rugby League.
The Titans were on the front foot from the opening whistle. They dominated possession in the opening ten minutes before a well executed scrum move saw the returning AJ Brimson slice through the Tigers defense.
Tigers struck back through their forwards. A nice pass saw David Klemmer streamroll past several Titans defenders to get the ball down and give the visitors a 6-4 advantage early in this contest.
A quick two-try salvo saw the Titans take a 10-point advantage going into the break. Klese Haas strolled through a gap to regain the lead then Brimson and Jayden Campbell combined for the latter to score off a grubber for 16-6.
Second halves haven't been the kindest to the Titans and but they bucked the trend here. Just before the hour mark after an arm wrestle, Tino Fa'asuamaleaui got a saloon passage after the pass from Sam Verrills to extend the lead to 16.
Once again, the Titans scored in bunches. Campbell snaffled an intercept before he was roped in by Jahream Bula in a match race. It was a simple pass option on the right which saw Phillip Sami score in his centurian game.
Tigers give the Titans a brief scare in the final stages. Bula fended off a defender then won the race to the try-line and eventually got the ball down. The young fullback has been a bright spot for the Tigers in recent weeks.
Titans were able to hold on to secure a valuable two points. They will have a nervous week ahead with Tino Fa'asuamaleaui on report for an elbow which led to a broken jaw for Apisai Koroisau in the first half.
