From everyone at LeagueUnlimited.com, to you and your family & friends - we wish you a very Merry Christmas and holiday season.
It's been a pretty special year - Penrith picked up their third consecutive (and fifth overall) NRL premiership, while in the north, Wigan celebrated their 23rd championship. Newcastle (NRLW) and York Valkyrie (WSL) picked up the women's titles.
In terms of individual accolades, Kalyn Ponga upset favourite Shaun Johnson to claim the men's Dally M medal, while Ponga's counterpart at the Knights Tamika Upton was the women's Dally M medallist. In the UK it was Wigan's Bevan French (Man of Steel) and York's Sinead Peach (Woman of Steel) capping championship seasons.
In State of Origin the Maroons retained the men's shield after a dominant Games I and II, while the format for women expanded to two games, Queensland winning the shield on points aggregate after each state claimed a match each (the series expands to three games in 2024).
In other UK competition news, Leigh won the Challenge Cup for the first time in decades, London stunned all to come from fifth place in the Championship to earn promotion to the 2024 Super League, while Wakefield will drop down to that level after finishing last in the top flight this year. At the bottom of the Championship Keighley and Newcastle will drop to League 1, replaced by Dewsbury and Doncaster in the second tier.

Incredibly, the footy for 2024 has already begun - and 2023 isn't even over yet! The UK friendlies began on Christmas Eve and run right through January, with the Challenge Cup and 1895 Cup starting in January, Super League in February and Championship in March. The NRL's pre-season takes up most of February - including the World Club Challenge - with season kickoff one week earlier than normal on March 2 with a Las Vegas double header before the rest of Round 1 begins in Australia on March 8.
