Brisbane Broncos v Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks

An eleven minute burst right after half time has seen the Cronulla Sharks take an important 22-12 comeback victory over the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.

The Broncos opened the scoring just after the tenth minute when Jordan Riki was able to keep the ball alive and Kotoni Staggs made a long run before Billy Walters and Pat Carrigan finished things off.

Hitting back a few minutes later, the Sharks proved to the Broncos why you need to wrap the ball up as on last tackle, Cronulla elected to run the ball and keeping the ball alive, the Sharks were able to score through Sifa Talakai.

The Sharks had the majority of possession and field position but they saw the scoreboard going up against them as the Broncos were able to snatch a late try with some luck as Jock Madden's kick was spilt by Braydon Trindall and the home-side was able to clean it up and Tyson Smoothy scored.

Staring down an unexpected 12-4 deficit at half time, the Sharks proved a point as they were able to run in three unanswered tries inside the first eleven minutes of the second half.

The Broncos were in all sorts to start the second half as they looked trapped in quicksand as they couldn't go anywhere and the Sharks had all the momentum as a lost ball saw the Visitors go right and stepping off his right foot, Sione Katoa was able to slice through soft defence.

Ball control wasn't the friend of Brisbane and a lost ball from Kotoni Staggs put the Sharks into good position and again a soft defence was penetrated by a hard run from Braydon Trindall who just through a dummy and split the defence between Pat Carrigan and Brendan Piakura.

The trifecta of tries for the Sharks saw Tristan Sailor's poor night at the back continue as a simple kick was spilt by the Broncos replacement fullback perfectly for the ball to land in the arms of the Sharks and Blayke Brailey was able to get over.

It was all Blue, Black and White in the second half as the Broncos didn't even get close to scoring and although they didn't score for the last half hour, the victory was never in doubt for the Sharks.

Next week, the Broncos will need to buck up their ideas when they have a clash against South Sydney who are growing in confidence whilst the Sharks have a Thursday night battle against the Dolphins at Shark Park.
