South Sydney Rabbitohs v Sydney Roosters

South Sydney Rabbitohs won 20-14 against their old enemy Sydney Roosters at Stadium Australian on Friday night.

It is a win that might help define the Rabbitohs season. They lost both halves then a winger but through magic from Latrell Mitchell and Jye Gray the Rabbitohs downed a error prone Roosters outfit.

The game didn't take long to open up. Roosters struck first, through Sandon Smith. He sliced through a razor thin gap and stepped towards the line to make it 6-0 for the visitors.

Rabbitohs responded in kind themselves with a velvet smooth move close to the line. It was a short pass from Lachlan Huber who found Tavita Tatola to stroll over under the sticks.

Latrell Mitchell thought he had the dream return to the side with a four-pointer. He barged over from close range but the bunker got involved and saw a brave save from James Tedesco to keep it 6-all.

Next, the Roosters were denied by the bunker. Dom Young thought he had streaked away from a charged down kick but it was ruled that he was offside and the game remained deadlocked.

The Rabbitohs had a glut of possession in the first half but they only had eight points to show for it after Mitchell piloted through a penalty goal in an error filled half of footy.

Souths were dealt a further blow at the break, Cody Walker succumbed to a hamstring injury after Jamie Humphreys left the game early for the same ailment which left them down both halves.

Roosters took advantage of that with their own weight of possession. Billy Smith finished off a backline move to push them ahead 10-8 then Young finished off a move from Tedesco and Wong put them six ahead.

The Rabbitohs refused to surrender despite Mikaele Ravalawa joining the injury ward. Jayden Sullivan sliced through the gap and positioned Jye Gray to score to lock it up again.

Enter Mitchell. He produced a stunning cut-out pass which sent Isaiah Tass tight rope walking down the sideline to score. He followed it up with a bending conversion which made it 20-14 for the Rabbitohs.

Roosters tried to throw what they could at the Rabbitohs but the hosts held firm, it is a quite gutsy and dare I say, famous win for the Rabbitohs who get their fourth win of the season.

For the Roosters, it will be like last week, a game that they threw away really. They had enough chances against a downcast Rabbitohs side and couldn't get it done tonight.
