Bounceback achieved for Wello's men against pitiful Dragons

St Helens have bounced back from several poor showings on the bounce to trounce the Catalans Dragons by 40-0 in an impressive rout at Totally Wicked Stadium.

The onslaught began early. Saints shifted it out wide to Tristan Sailor, allowing the unofficial Mr Fix It to use his speed to link up with young half-back George Whitby, who backed him up to go over before converting his own try for a 6-0 lead. Alex Walmsley crashed over after eight minutes to make it a 12-0 game and Steve McNamara was panicking in the opposition dugout.

Just before the break, a huge Agnatius Paasi hit put them on top to send it through the hands for Deon Cross to walk in on his home debut for his hometown club, Whitby was precise with the boot once again. Right on half-time, Jack Welsby's pass was gathered by Mark Percival, who cut back to break away before finding Whitby to score his second try, the conversion accurate once again for a dominant 24-0 lead at half-time.

After a tense opening to the second half, St Helens continued from where they left off. Percival again took off, unloading to Sailor who scored a second try. New signing Lewis Murphy continued his strong return from injury, crossing for a spectacular try in the corner. But it was the young half's night at home after being on the end of a Walmsley's offload to get a hattrick.

Standards keep being set as Wigan get revenge

After a tense 1-0 scoreline in the first round, Wigan and Leigh combined for 64 points in a try-fest in Wigan.

The Warriors wasted little time in getting on the board against the Leopards for the first time this season after a lovely pass from Jai Field sent Liam Marshall over in the corner after four minutes. Five minutes later, Wigan were in again as Junior Nsemba continued his claims for an Ashes jersey with an incredible offload to send Field away before finding Jake Wardle to make it 12-0 very quickly.

Leigh needed a response and got one after 18 minutes. Lachie Lam turned Tesi Niu on an unders line to get one back for the visitors. That was soon followed by another Wigan lightning raid, scoring two tries in three minutes to blow the Leopards out of the water.  Adam Keighran crashed across as Bevan French continued his rich vein of form with a delightful pass. This was soon followed by Nsemba as David Armstrong let a midfield kick bounce, and Wardle got the bounce and unloaded to the backrower to make it 24-6.

It got worse for the Leopards before the break as Kaide Ellis crossed five minutes from the end of the half after beating three defenders and carrying them over the try-line. Leigh did end up getting a try before the break as new signing Joe Ofahengaue was on the end of a brilliant pass from Edwin Ipape to cut the gap to 16 points at the break.

Just like Wigan in the first half, Leigh got two tries in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Ethan O'Neill delivered both tries to the Leigh faithful, the first coming three minutes after the resumption after a great short ball from Ipape. Six minutes later, Ipape delivered again as quick hands saw him find McNamara then onto O'Neill and Leigh were back in this ball game.

That hope didn't last long though as Wigan crossed for two further second half tries. The first came after 53 minutes when Zach Eckersley dived over after French fooled the Leigh defence with a skipping run. Kruise Leeming sealed the game just after the hour mark after a long break down the left hand side. Leigh managed a consolation try through Owen Trout but it was in vein as Wigan deserved victory in this one.

Last minute magic gets Rhinos home

A last minute try to Ryan Hall has gotten the Leeds Rhinos out of jail against a gallant Hull FC side at Headingley.

It was a tough opening 25 minutes to the game with both sides offering up attacking chances, but execution was getting in the way. From a scrum, Hull FC shifted to the left and it was a delightful draw and pass from Will Pryce to send Lewis Martin over in the corner.

A crash ball for big Sam Eseh saw the big interchange forward claim a try in the shadows of half-time. After a lengthy video referral (what's new in Super League), the try was awarded as Eseh was on his head as he grounded the ball. Not to be outdone, Leeds managed a try before the break and Brodie Croft dug into the line and found James McDonnell to make it a 10-4 halftime lead.

Hull kickstarted the second half the better side, a clever kick from Pryce came off the post, into the arms of Zak Hardaker who quickly shifted to the left and Harvey Bannon crashed over in the right corner. Leeds were in desperate need of a fight-back and they got one six minutes later. A determined carry from Tom Holroyd crashed over the top of Pryce and Hardaker to go over next to the posts to reduce the gap to six.

With fifteen to go before the break, a clever backline spread to the left-hand side saw Riley Lumb finish off a silky movement to set up a grandstand finish. With under two to play, Hull were tenaciously defending their line after an Ash Handley break. That resolve broke after a move to the right saw Hall crash over in the corner to get the Rhinos out of jail.

Rovers keep the hapless Giants scoreless

In a season full of ups and downs, there is one constant we can rely on. Hull KR being ruthless at home, thrashing Huddersfield by 34-0.

Hull KR opened the scoring after 14 minutes when Joe Burgess touched down in the corner. In news that'll shock NRL readers, it has taken 11 rounds for Jared Waerea-Hargraves to find the naughty corner, as he was sin-binned for a high tackle. Mikey Lewis was also denied a second try of the half.

To the Giants credit, they were well in the contest until just before the hour mark. Last season's Man of Steel Lewis brought things to life with the game's second try. Halves partner Tyrone May followed him on to the scoresheet moments later as a show and go allowed him to get his first Super League try of the season.

The away side could not stem the tide as Tanginoa and Brown went over before Burgess rounded off the scoring with the best try of the game, involving some more Lewis magic as the Rovers journey to Wembley continued in great stride.

Wakefield have Burgess number in an utter rout!

A 22 point second half from Wakefield has left Warrington in an utter mess ahead of their Challenge Cup final date with Hull KR, losing by 30 points away from home.

The first ten minutes was dominated by Caius Faatili who crossed for an early double. The first came after four minutes as he charged through the middle third. Five minutes later, a Mason Lino bomb was taken by Tom Johnstone who found Josh Griffin who found Faatili who scored an early double.

After 25 minutes, Lino once again had his hands all over a try, this time through a delightful short ball to Griffin who went over to score and make it 18-0. After being shell-shocked, Warrington's undermanned back-line crossed for two quick tries to make it a competitive ball game.

The first came through Arron Lindop after a Harbour Bridge ball from Marc Sneyd allowed him to touch down. Two minutes later, Connor Wrench scored after Sneyd linked up with Lindop down the short side before Wrench ended up touching down.

From there however, it was all Wakefield. Lino once again had his hands on everything with a great ball at the line to Corey Hall who hit a great line to go over. After 56 minutes, it was Max Jowitt's turn to have a hand in a try with a long ball to Tom Johnstone to return the gap to an 18 point one and effectively take Warrington out of the game.

Wakefield finished with two tries in the final twenty minutes to put an empathic exclamation mark after a terrific offload from Matthieu Cozza found Griffin for his second try. The icing on the cake was set with 12 to play after Lino's bomb was spilled by Dufty, Cozza was there to scoop up and find Oliver Pratt to make it a 30-point hiding.

Nene returns but same old story for Salford

Despite the return of Nene MacDonald and a rare visit from their controversial ownership group, it wasn't enough to reverse fortunes for the Salford Red Devils as they were thrashed 48-16 by Castleford.

It was looming to be a long afternoon for Salford (yes, it has been a theme this season) after a tap move saw Tex Hoy take off down the short side to barge over some paper-thin defence seven minutes in. Twelve minutes later, Zac Cini continued his strong season with another high leap to score a trip off a Hoy kick.

Innes Senior continued a rough afternoon for the Red Devils after 27 minutes. Hoy once again broke through some defence before being taken down, on the ensuing play the Tigers were able to find Senior and it was 18-0. The winger was away again in the shadows of the break before linking up with Hoy and it was 24-0 at the break.

Paul Rowley got his message across at the break and Salford rewarded him with two quick tries to start the half. No matter the state of play off the field, these guys deserve all the praise for playing amid troubled circumstances. A great ball from Jayden Nikorima sent Matty Foster over to get Salford's account going. Three minutes later, the returning Nene MacDonald capitalised on a Castleford error to make it a 14-point game.

That was the closest the visitors got as the Tigers ran in four straight tries to blow the Red Devils away. Rowan Milnes took a carry and was able to offload to Muizz Mustapha who crashed over under the posts before the hour mark while further tries to Hoy (his third), Mellor and Asi capped off a convincing win. Salford did have a late say when MacDonald got his second try to give their fans some hope amid the turmoil off the field.
