Newcastle Knights v Sydney Roosters

The Sydney Roosters have managed to pull a victory out of nowhere as they came from 8-0 down to take a 12-8 win over the Newcastle Knights in a very lacklustre affair.

It's hard to say much about the first half with any positivity outside of the first five minutes when the Knights were able to score through Kyle McCarthy when a play after a burst through the middle from Dylan Lucas. The hosts were able to have the numbers and then some could work from Jack Cogger ensured the numbers were there and McCarthy scored. The conversion was good from Dane Gagai and the Novocastrians lead 6-0.

The rest of the half was a dour affair with neither side exactly setting the game alight as the Knights attack pestered the Roosters line but failed to make any indent and the Roosters kicking game back the other way was the same.

The start to the second half didn't exactly light a spark in the game either though the Knights extended their lead out to 8-0 just shy of the hour mark when Dane Gagai added a penalty goal.

The Knights were then denied by the bunker when James Schiller who got up saying he hadn't but despite admitting he hadn't scored, it was given on field by referee Gerard Sutton but quickly over turned.

Just moments later, the Roosters finally found some spark and it was off a James Tedesco pass that sent Salesi Foketi into space and some magic work with the feet saw Foketi beat the Knights defence and despite a desperate attempt from Fletcher Hunt, the Roosters rookie got his maiden NRL try.

Plenty of controversy surrounded the Roosters match-winner when a James Tedesco grubber was kicked through and Siua Wong got there and despite it looking like he got his fingers to the ball and then grounding it with his wrist, the bunker confirmed the live decision of try. The conversion gave the Roosters a 12-8 lead.

The Knights had more chances but their attack was rudderless and couldn't make a dent into the Roosters who just held on to the 12-8 win.

Roosters will lose both Egan Butcher and Victor Radley ahead of their clash next week against the Tigers with the pair failing their HIA's whilst the Knights have to work on their attack as they look forward to a clash in Perth against the Dolphins.
