The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have celebrated the 30th anniversary of their 1995 premiership win with a 42-4 demolition of the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles at the Sydney Football Stadium.
The game started with an arm-wrestle early though it was an error from Jason Saab at the back that saw a loose ball picked up by Sam Hughes who got through to the line to score. Crichton converted for a 6-0 lead.
Despite the try, the game continued to be an arm-wrestle and even with DCE kicking a 40/20, the Sea Eagles couldn't take advantage of their attacking position and the Bulldogs scored just after the half-hour mark when Jacob Kiraz went over in the corner.
Manly hit back on the stroke of halftime when Jason Saab went over in the corner after a good shift right from the visitors. Reuben Garrick's conversion attempt hit the post and the score remained 12-4 which it went to the break as.
The second half started in a similar manner to the first half with an arm-wrestle for the first twenty minutes before Jacob Kiraz got over for his second. The Bulldogs quickly turned the momentum and just minutes later the Sea Eagles lost the ball with Bronson Xerri taking advantage to score under the posts.
As the clocked ticked, the Bulldogs started to find their extra gears as Bronson Xerri picked up his second after he carried three defenders to the line after Manly couldn't shut down the work of Kikau or Crichton.
Things got messy and heated as errors and foul play crept into both sides game which included Matt Lodge being put on report for an off the ball hit.
The Bulldogs scored two late tries to put the icing on the cake as Enari Tuala went over before Jacob Preston scored next to the posts after the Sea Eagles spilled a third kick of the afternoon. Stephen Crichton converted for a perfect 7 out of 7 to seal the 42-4 win.
Next week, the Bulldogs head to Commbank Stadium for a clash with the Tigers whilst the Sea Eagles look to bounce back with a Saturday night home game against the Roosters.
