Trinity win thriller against Rhinos

Justin Davies

Wakefield Trinity won 15-14 against Leeds Rhinos in their game at the DIY Kitchens Stadium on Thursday night.

The hosts were the first side to hit the scoreboard. Mason Lino was held down too long and earned the whistle then Max Jowitt piloted over the kick for 2-0.

Brodie Croft was also sin binned for his part in the tackle which left Leeds Rhinos down to 12 players.

Wakefield made use of their extra player quickly. They stripped numbers on the right and Lachlan Walmsley slammed it down for 6-0.

Leeds did cut into their deficit during the sin binning. An offside penalty allowed Jake Connor to bring them back within four.

Trinity did extend their lead to a converted try before half-time. Connor was pinged for a high shot and Jowitt kicked a second penalty goal for 8-2.

The game would go into the break locked up thanks to Sam Lisone. The forward charged onto a short ball and he crossed the stripe.

Wakefield attempted to snatch the lead back from their third penalty goal of the game. Another high tackle was caught by the referee and Jowitt pushed it wide.

The Rhinos took their first lead of the game in the second half. Croft got close to the line then Jarrod O'Connor scooped up the ball and nudged over for 14-8.

Trinity kept huffing and puffing but couldn't find a way past the Rhinos line headed into the final 10 minutes of the game.

It took a surgical pass from Lino to break them open. He bulleted the ball right to Matty Storton to level the game at 14-all.

Leeds had the first chance at field goal. Croft lined it up in the final minute but sprayed the kick which gave Wakefield one shot.

That was all the hosts needed. As the clock ticked down, Lino got position and wobbled the field goal over for a famous 15-14 win for Wakefield.

Warriors hold off fast finishing Dragons

Justin Davies

Wigan Warriors won 28-18 against Catalans Dragons down at The Brick Community Stadium on Friday night.

The Warriors remain on the hunt for another League Leaders Shield in their tussle with Hull KR in 2025.

The hosts were the first side to get on the board. It was a backline play which saw Liam Marshall link up with Jake Wardle to go over.

Next, it was a solo effort from Jack Farrimond. He floated across the field then grubbered through for himself and swooped on it for 10-0.

Wigan were in full flow late in the first half. They exchanged passes through the middle and it ended with Kruise Leeming diving over.

Catalans needed a response in the second half and got one through Cesar Rouge. He took it upon himself to cut through the Warriors defence to plant it down.

The Warriors showed off their wares from the scrum base. A slick move and Zach Eckersley just motored through a gap to make it 22-6.

The Dragons kept in the fight though. Theo Fages unfurled a wonderful pass for prolific try-scorer Tommy Makinson to score in the corner.

Wigan would keep the visitors at arms length again. This was a simple effort which saw Brad O'Neill brush off some flimsy defense to make it 28-12.

Catalans added a late consolation. Alrix De Costa struggled enough to keep himself upright and get the ball on the line after referee review.

Giants put a dent in Hull FC finals hopes

Justin Davies

Huddersfield Giants won 30-14 against Hull FC in their game at MKM Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

While it dented the Hull FC's finals chances, the win lifts the Giants further away from the basement of the Super League ladder.

The visitors executed a precise backline move to take the lead. It went out to Adam Swift who touched down.

Hull FC responded with some slick work of their own. Jez Litten popped the ball to Lewis Martin to dive over.

The Giants finished the first half with a flurry of points. First, Danny Frawley piloted a kick through that Joe Greenwood latched onto.

Next, Jake Bibby picked up a loose ball and strode to the line and gave the Giants a 18-4 lead at half-time.

The Giants withstood some early pressure from the hosts including a chalked off four-pointer to Harvey Barron to hold their lead.

They extended their lead with another superb play from George Flanagan. He took a pass from Tui Lolohea and sliced through.

Hull FC kept fighting to get some points on the board. They swept it wide again and Martin had another simple finish for his second.

The Giants remained at arms length and scored their fifth of the game. Lolohea stepped past two players to touch down for 30-10.

It wasn't a win for Hull FC but there was some personal glory for Martin. He got a hat-trick from an early kick from Aidan Sezer which gave him space then provided an acrobatic finish.
