St Helens won 24-14 against Hull FC in their contest played down at MKM Stadium on Thursday night.
The visitors built on their Challenge Cup Quarter Final result with a solid second half display to get the two points.
Hull FC were the first side to get on board. It was a Zak Hardaker push inside which saw Logan Moy dive over.
The Saints responded through Josh Davies. He stepped outside a tackle and slid over to make it 6-all.
Following a charge from Sam Lisone close to the line, Amir Bourouh was able to duck down to give the hosts a six-point lead at the break.
St Helens went with a powerplay of their own after half-time to level. Noah Stephens kept his legs pumping and stretched out.
The teams traded penalty goals in the second half for 14-all. Tristan Sailor put the Saints ahead before Hardaker raised the flags to draw level.
Sailor was on point with his boot again. He dabbed a kick through and prolific winger Kyle Feldt was on hand to put Saints ahead.
Harry Robertson picked up the spoils from a Hull FC error and strode away to give the Saints the win and move them top of the Super League.

Hull KR won 46-0 against Toulouse Olympique in their game down at Stade Ernest Wallon on Friday night.
The Robins have found their wings after a slow start to the season and move within two points of the top six.
The visitors went close twice before Elliot Minchella was put into a gap by Jez Litten to score the opener.
Hull KR scored their second four-pointer from the air with Rhyse Martin pouncing on an error from the hosts.
They added a third just before the break. Tyrone May passed inside to Dean Hadley to make it 18-0 at the break.
Hull KR picked up right where they left off after the break. Mikey Lewis bustled through then the Robins went through the hands for Joe Burgess to touch down.
Next, Litten and Lewis combined for the former to score then Peta Hiku snagged an intercept to put them up 36-0.
Lewis sliced through again to put Jai Whitbread in followed by another backline move which allowed Burgess to round off the win with a brace.

Leeds Rhinos won 56-22 against Huddersfield Giants in their game at the ACCU Stadium on Friday night.
The Rhinos became the Super League leaders after their huge result as they continue a strong start to the season.
The visitors kicked it out on the full to start and Huddersfield took full advantage with George King crashing over.
Leeds brushed that off and clicked into gear quickly. Lewis Miller started the break then some quick hands saw Brodie Croft score.
They took the lead soon after. Jarrod O'Connor spied some lax marketing and burrowed over from close range.
Leeds kept their foot on the throat. Jack Bird went over then Ryan Hall kept his legs pumping to nudge over for 22-6.
It was Miller time for the Rhinos next. The fullback kicked for himself and got the bounce to touch down.
Huddersfield reduced the deficit just before the break. Niall Evalds provided the pass and Jacob Douglas extended his arm to score.
Leeds were in a mood for points in the second half. Cameron Smith brushed off some feeble defence to score then Croft got his second.
Croft got a hat-trick soon after half-time. A high kick went up and was fumbled by the Giants and Croft was on hand to score.
Evalds was involved in Huddersfield's best work this night. He flicked it to Jacob Gagai who twisted and turned to get a four-pointer.
It isn't a Rhinos game without Maika Sivo. He finished off a backline move to add another try to his burgeoning tally.
Croft added a fourth to round off the Rhinos scoring while Oliver Russell got some consolation for the hosts.

Leigh Leopards won 18-6 against York Knights down at The LNER Community Stadium on Friday night.
The Leopards bounced back from their Challenge Cup defeat and picked up a precious two points to move away from the bottom.
It was the visitors who were the first side on the board. Gareth O'Brien sliced through the defence to slide over.
York pounded the door down to level the game. Paul Vaughan went close then Xavier Av'a plunged over.
Va'a went from hero to villain soon after. He was sin binned for a late hit on the other try scorer O'Brien near the line.
Leigh kicker Adam Cook piloted over the penalty goal to put the visitors ahead 8-6 again in a low scorer.
Despite being down a man, York had their share of opportunities to score points but were denied by the Leopards.
Leigh extended their lead after half-time. It was swung through the hands and Josh Charnley provided the finish.
The Leopards put the icing on the win through Jacob Alick-Wiencke who charged onto a Cook ball to make it 18-6.

Wakefield Trinity won 52-12 against Bradford Bulls down at the DIY Kitchens Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
That result moved Wakefield Trinity into a share of top spot on the Super League ladder after eight games.
Wakefield scored early and it was a milestone score for Tom Johnstone. The winger dived over in the corner to bring up his 150th try.
It felt like the second was a carbon copy for Johnstone. It was quick hands on the left again and the winger got a second.
Johnstone collected a first half hat-trick in the sunshine. He put his foot down and raced to the corner for a 17 min triple.
Wakefield used their right side again to great effect. Harry Trueman started the move which ended with Cameron Scott going over.
Buoyed by the first half surge, Wakefield attacked from their own. Johnstone clicked into gear and the move was finished by Josh Rourke for 24-0 at the break.
Bradford Bulls cut into the deficit right after half-time. Zac Fulton found his way across the strip after confirmation from the video referee.
It was a slight respite before Wakefield struck again. The right winger got into the action as Oliver Pratt scored in the corner.
Wakefield were having fun in the sun. Trueman and Rourke combined before the latter flicked it to Seth Nikotemo to get on the list.
Both wingers for Trinity were enjoying themselves. Johnstone collected a fourth while Pratt touched down twice late for his hat-trick.
The Bulls did get some late consolation. Caleb Aekins poked his nose through and found Eliot Peposhi to complete the scoring.

Catalans Dragons won 38-22 against Warrington Wolves at Stade Gilbert Brutus on Saturday evening.
The Dragons second half surge helps them into the Super League top six after the first two months.
The first flash point came when Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet was sin binned for a professional foul on a 20-metre restart.
Wolves used the numerical advantage quickly through Jake Thewis. The winger produced an acrobatic effort to make it 4-0.
The visitors extended their lead to 10 with some sparkling football. George Williams showed off his step to turn the defence inside out to score.
It was the Wolves turn to be reduced to 12. Matty Ashton was binned for a professional foul on Tommy Makinson.
Catalans drew level at the break with the advantage. Makinson was denied twice earlier but he used the space on offer to touch down.
Next, Kruise Leeming started a move which ended with Leo Darrellatour cutting inside to make it 10-all.
Warrington saw out the rest of the bin and then snatched the lead back. They struck from their own half and Josh Thewlis was there to get his second.
Catalans struck back with a run on last tackle. They went wide again and Makinson finished it off for 16-all.
The Dragons took control of the game after levelling. Lewis Dodd was in the right spot twice to finish off breaks to get his brace.
Dodd picked up a hat-trick in bizarre circumstances. Warrington threw the ball on the ground and the half pounced to seal the game.
The halfback turned provider as the Dragons turned on the style. He chipped a kick which landed in the lap of Zac Lipowicz to add himself to the try scorer list.
Warrington did have the final say in the game. Max Wood pushed off a defender to stroll to the tryline.

Castleford Tigers won 24-14 against Wigan Warriors in their clash at the Brick Community Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors missed a chance to join Leeds and Wakefield at the summit of the Super League ladder.
The Tigers were the side who pounced first. Some link up between Jason Qareqare and Krystian Mapapalangi saw the latter score.
It was the Champions showed resolve to strike back. Zac Eckersley found space and flicked to Dayon Sambou to go over in the corner.
Sambou turned provider to put the Warriors in the lead. He knocked the ball down from Jack Farrimond kick into the hands of Eckersley to make it 12-6.
A dangerous tackle on Junior Nsemba allowed the Warriors to extend their lead to eight at the break from the tee.
Castleford Tigers had bite in the second half. Jack Ashworth showed his leg speed to get himself across the stripe.
Next, Mapapalangi produced some magic. He started the break before involving Jenson Windley then the forward kicked ahead for himself to collect a second.
Castleford were in full flow now. George Lawler brushed off the defence to plant the ball down and make it 24-14.
The Tigers saw out the rest of the game to register the biggest upset of the Super League season thus far.
