Jason Ryles gets five weeks

The NRL judiciary has found St George Illawarra prop Jason Ryles guilty of a grade four careless high tackle on Northern Eagles forward Gary Winter.

He has been suspended for five weeks and will miss out on representing NSW in the first two State of Origin matches. Considered a certain starter in the NSW side, a visibly dismayed Jason Ryles left the hearing without comment.

St George Illawarra CEO, Peter Doust said that it was the club's view that Ryles had a defence.

Ryles' counsel, former judiciary boss Alan Sullivan QC, immediately sought to have the charge downgraded.
