Wests Tigers v Rabbitohs preview

Round 10 of the NRL produced some significant upsets, but from a bookmaking point of view it was very hard to make any money, as most of the winners were popular with punters. We did our best to lay the favourites on Friday night, but struggled to find any decent money for the Broncos at the -6.5 line. Everyone wanted to be on the Bulldogs against a depleted Dragons outfit, so that game was a good one for punters. The Roosters were well supported to knock over the Sharks easily, and they duly saluted. Souths and North Queensland played out the first extra time draw in NRL history, and the many punters that took the Cowboys to cover the 7.5 point line were left smarting a little. On Sunday, everyone wanted to predict that the Warriors were going to turn everything around and mysteriously re-find good form. We took a big stand against the Warriors and for the second week in a row, Manly were our best friends. Both Canberra and Parramatta were totally unlayable against Wests Tigers and Melbourne, respectively, and no matter how far we pushed the original favourites out, there was little more than a zak for them. The Storm ended up running two point favourites after opening the week two point outsiders, and the Tigers ran $1.85 favourites on Sunday after opening at $2.10. The large punters all flocked to the Warriors with one bet of $30,000 for them -8.5 points, and two bets of $20,000 each for them at $1.38 to win the game. The Bulldogs attracted a $30,000 wager at $1.93 minus 4.5 start, and also a $25,000 at $1.90 giving the same start. The Roosters had strong support with one bet of $20,000 on them to cover the 8.5 line. Our most successful punter for the past weekend was easily a regular of ours who loves to play on our Halftime/Fulltime Doubles markets. This week he punted on the Any Other Result option in both the Brisbane/Newcastle, and the Souths/North Queensland games. This option requires the scores to be level at either halftime or fulltime, and while he was very unlucky that the Friday night game was not level at halftime, it was at fulltime and along with the Draw in Gosford, he had gotten two bets of $2,000 at $10.00 up in two days. He then changed his tack and took the Warriors to be leading at halftime into Manly to run over the top of them. This also got up for our lucky client and another $18,000 collect was his. These Halftime/Fulltime markets are quite popular, and while it may be more difficult to find a winner, the returns for picking a couple of winners can be very lucrative, as our successful punter can attest to just that after his weekend to remember. Good Luck everyone.
