The Jets earn themselves an improved report card.

The Newtown Jets defeated an under-strength Auckland Vulcans team 34-22 in the 5th round VB NSW Cup match played at Henson Park on Saturday. The Jets scored a converted try late in the second half that somewhat inflated the final winning margin, but no doubt Newtown fans were pleased with any win after the trouncing dealt out by the Bulldogs on the previous Saturday.

The Vulcans made a terrible start to the game, losing possession in the opening set and thereby conceding a try to Jets winger Daniel Tupou in the second minute. Halfback Mark Kheirallah obliged by converting from the sideline. The Vulcans responded with their own converted try in the ninth minute after both teams had made handling errors.
