Souths go back to back in Charity Shield win

THE South Sydney Rabbitohs have started 2006 on a winning note after defeating the St George Illawarra Dragons 14-12 in the Charity Shield trial at Telstra Stadium tonight.The Dragons came out the blocks impressively after five-eighth Trent Barrett scored the first try of the night after getting past three Souths players on his way to the line. A second Barrett inspired try gave the Dragons a 12-0 lead at halftime after he put in a chip kick for fullback Ben Hornby who planted it over the line.Whatever Souths' coach Shaun McRae said at halftime must of worked, as it was a different South Sydney who came onto the field for the second half.
