THE Sydney Airport Jets staged another last-minute escape act in Saturday?s thrilling VB Premier League match against St.George-Illawarra at Henson Park. Two weeks ago the Jets beat Parramatta 22-16 with a converted try in the last minute of play and in an amazing coincidence, Newtown repeated that same 22-16 winning margin and the late converted try against the Dragons.
THE Sydney Airport Jets unleashed a powerhouse display in defeating the Penrith-St.Marys Cougars by 64-8, in the VB Premier League match played at the Western Weekender Stadium on Saturday. This was Newtown?s biggest winning margin since entering the NSWRL flagship competition in 2000, and was highlighted by a points-scoring bonanza by Nathan Merritt, who collected a personal haul of forty points, made up of five tries and ten goals. Merritt?s achievement sets a new Newtown club record for the number of points scored by an individual player in one match.
BOTH Sydney Airport Jets teams are coming off good wins from last weekend. Newtown is at home to the Sydney Bulls in the Jim Beam Cup competition on Saturday afternoon, while the Jets VB Premier League team plays away at Campbelltown Stadium on Friday night.
