THE Newcastle Knights finals chances are still alive, but only just after they escaped with a 28-all draw against North Sydney, after leading 16-0 at the break and 28-4 with twenty minutes remaining. Only poor goal-kicking by the Bears was the saving grace.
A typical winter's day in Newcastle greeted Newcastle and Balmain Ryde in their round 18 encounter. There was a strong south/south-westerly wind blowing down the field when the teams ran out. Newcastle had the benefit of what was most likely a 16-18 point breeze at their backs in the first half and failed to used it.

8TH placed Wests travelled to EnergyAustralia Stadium to take on the 6th placed Knights in their round 13 encounter. The Knights had come off a controversial 24-22 loss to the table-topping Dragons. The Magpies in comparison were coming off a 32-24 win over the 7th placed Souths Juniors.
SHOWERS greeted the players as they ran onto EnergyAustralia Stadium for the round 17 encounter between the Newcastle Knights, running 7th and 4th placed Sydney Roosters. The Knights were severely understrength for this match as once again, their never-ending injury toll ate into their Premier League side.
THE Cougars hosted Newcastle in Premier League?s round 16 of the competition. The Cougars opened the scoring in the 4th minute of play when winger Luke Dyer crossed in the corner after a cross-field bomb from halfback Keith Peters. Michael Gordon added the extras from the sideline to put the Cougars ahead 6-0. The next twenty minutes was a dour struggle with both teams looking to gain the upper hand. In the 24th minute, Knights hooker Nathan Berry opened his sides account. The successful conversion from Dane Campbell tied the scores at 6-6. 6 minutes later, Knights fullback Nathan Hinton finished a sparkling backline move, which started just inside the Newcastle half. He crossed under the posts and with Campbell?s conversion the Knights led 12-6. On the stroke of halftime, Knights utility Daniel Spiteri increased the Knights lead to ten. Campbell?s conversion after the siren had the Knights running to the sheds at 18-6.
POOR goal kicking nearly cost the Parramatta Eels in their round 14 match against Newcastle.
