LEAGUE Wrap: Round 25, 26-28 August 2005
And then there were two?
THIS round of footy provides for some intriguing results. We?ve got seven definite semi-finalists allowing for up to five contenders for the remaining spot. That?s somewhat amusing considering the fanfare surrounding the top 8 resembling a game of musical chairs. Even more so given that this week the Sea Eagles can reach out and stop the tape deck by defeating New Zealand and thus stopping the game a week short of it?s expected expiry.
ANOTHER great round of league has produced a star-studded line-up for this week. With the Tigers in strong form as well as the Dragons, Eels and Knights there is plenty of competition for places. With Souths, Cronulla and Penrith also picking up valuable victories it makes the Round 24 League Unlimited Team of the Week a very diverse one with plenty of points in them ? 117 in total! There were only two players picked who didn?t cross the stripe of put it between the posts. But I?m sure we can all forgive Luke Bailey and John Skandalis who get through enough work each Sunday to

LEAGUE Wrap: Round 24, 19-21 August 2005
We have a new outright leader this week with Andrew Johns topping the table and moving up to 24 points in the Leagueunlimited.com Player Awards. The Knights? half back has been the most consistent player of the paddock since returning from injury last June. He overtakes Cowboys' full back Matt Bowen and Storm half back Matt Orford who share equal second spot on 22 points.
FRIDAY, 19th August 2005
A scintillating round of footy has thrown up year another great collection of players this week. Some powerful displays from Parra, Wests Tigers and the Dragons have seen most of their players utilised with a few others creeping in from the in-form Knights and giant killing Rabbitohs. With these teams are hitting their straps at the right end of the season, it?s hard to see anyone topping the Round 23 League Unlimited Team of the Week.
LAST week saw the cream of rugby league talent rise to the top. I still rate the Broncos and Cowboys as they both have problems that can be fixed over the next month, but you cannot go past the form of Parramatta, Wests Tigers and the Dragons. All three teams are steaming right now and circling one another with arms cocked like prize-fighters waiting to land a knock-out punch.
LEAGUE Wrap: Round 23, 12-14 August 2005
The competition in this year?s Leagueunlimited Player Awards is hotting up with last year?s winner Matt Orford joining Cowboys? full back Matt Bowen at the top of the leader board. The Storm half back scored two points on the weekend to move into equal first position on 22 points overall.
LAST week I said there were a few surprises left in this comp, and that was about the only thing I got right. Usually in uncertain times you can fall back on the hosts making short work of the visitors but an extraordinary weekend of footy saw five of the winners travelling away from home to claim the points.
