FINALS Week One, 9-11 September 2005
Week one of the 2005 NRL Finals series kicked off in spectacular style with the Wests Tigers blowing away the Cowboys to the tune of 50-6 at Telstra Stadium. The result had statisticians looking back over 60 years through the record books for a bigger semi-final thrashing. Brett Hodgson was the talk of the town with a record-breaking personal tally of 30 points, the most scored by a player in NRL finals history. Hodgson bagged a hat trick of tries and kicked nine goals from nine attempts, breaking his own club record for points scored in a match.
THE last round of this year?s NRL regular season is over, but boy do we have another cracking team! There were some real stand-outs over the weekend and the full results for the season can be found at Monday?s Expert. For now, please form a guard of honour as our boys run out for the last time. Here is the Round 26 League Unlimited Team of the Week.
2005 LEAGUEUNLIMITED.COM PLAYER OF THE YEAR: ANDREW JOHNS
Congratulations to Andrew Johns who has taken out the Leagueunlimited.com Player Awards for 2005.
FRIDAY, 9th September 2005
IN a stunning result, the Dally M Medallist for 2005 has been awarded to North Queensland Cowboys half Johnathan Thurston. With fierce competition from rival playmaker Andrew Johns, the vote went down to the final round with both players polling 3 points. Ben Kennedy for Manly came a deserved third place.
LAST week?s results shook the tree a little, with the Sea Eagles unselfishly allowing the comp to stay alive into the 26th round, in the meantime permitting the Warriors to bow out with a modicum of honour. The Tigers stumbled as the Storm stood up to them, the Cowboys consolidated and the Eels pushed ahead. The Dragons got a bit of Mad Monday practise whilst the Broncos would probably rather be on Mad Monday.
FRIDAY, 2nd September 2005
THE second last round of the season has given us a pretty tough team to beat. With the Australian fullback, wing, halfback, lock and plenty of others who have rep jumpers to their credit, the Round 25 League Unlimited Team of the Week has all the ingredients to be one of our best ever. Have a go at these boys!
LEAGUE Wrap: Round 25, 26-28 August 2005
And then there were two?
THIS round of footy provides for some intriguing results. We?ve got seven definite semi-finalists allowing for up to five contenders for the remaining spot. That?s somewhat amusing considering the fanfare surrounding the top 8 resembling a game of musical chairs. Even more so given that this week the Sea Eagles can reach out and stop the tape deck by defeating New Zealand and thus stopping the game a week short of it?s expected expiry.
