Leeds, Warrington and Hull FC record Super League wins

A look back at the Friday night (Saturday AM AEDT) action from Round 6 of the First Utility. Super League.

Leeds did enough to outclass St Helens on Friday night, downing the Saints 30-18 at home.

The Rhinos piled on the points early to shut St Helens out of the contest at Headingley, taking a 16-0 lead after just 11 minutes courtesy of tries to Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Adam Cuthbertson and Liam Sutcliffe.

Despite the early lead the Saints weren't counting themselves out, and fought back to lead 18-16 through tries to Kyle Amor, Luke Walsh and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbook. It would be the Rhinos who led at the change of ends, however, as Carl Ablett crossed for the home side for a 22-16 scoreline at halftime.

A low-scoring second half saw Ash Handley extend the Rhinos lead with a try of his own, while Sutcliffe extended it further with a penalty goal late on to deliver the final 30-18 score.

Warrington meanwhile took no prisoners in destroying the Castleford Tigers 56-12 at Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The Wolves raced to a 38-0 lead at the halftime break on the back of seven tries (five of which were converted). The hosts piled on four more after the resumption of play, with Australian half Chris Sandow starring. Sandow bagged two tries of his own, along with Tom Lineham and Ben Currie.

Kurt Gidley missed 5 of 11 attempts which could have seen a more damaging scoreline, while conjecture remains about a Gidley try which could yet be allocated Matty Russell upon closer inspection after both got to the ball at the same time.

Warrington now join next-door neighbour Widnes at the top of the Super League table - and face the Vikings next week in an Easter weekend derby.

Hull FC dominated at KC Stadium, with the Wakefield Wildcats unable to get their heads in the game in losing 22-4.

With a new coach at the 'Cats in Chris Chester, the same problems reared their heads as the Hull side were guided to a comfortable win by a brace of tries to Mark Minichiello, plus four-pointers for Curtis Naughton and Carlos Tuimavave. Marc Sneyd converted three of four while Joe Arundel was the sole scorer of points for the struggling Wakefield outfit.
